So here is my dilemma…wondering if anyone has any ideas.
So all spring, summer, basically up untill now i was either running my air conditioner in my window or the “fan” on the a/c unit when i went to bed.
Now that it’s cooler outside i have removed the a/c unit and sealed the windows back up. Last night when i went to bed i could not sleep at all because it was “too quiet to sleep” if that makes any sense.
I ended up staying up for a few hours, taking some nyquil and doing a few shots of crown eventually falling asleep around 12:30-1:00.
I am a very light sleep, so every little noise or whatever keeps me awake. I think that the a/c or fan was a constant noise and was loud enough to drowned out all the “little noises” like my wife breathing, dog breathing, cars driving by and so on.
What should i try to make it easier for me to fall asleep?
alcohol will help a person fall asleep, but the quality of sleep is shit…
One word… Melatonin, buy 3mg if you want to fall asleep in 20-30min, have a medium sleep and wake up refreshed. 5mg will knock you on in 15-20min, heavy sleep, but makes it hard to get up and out of bed in the morning.
I had this problem when I was younger. I used to have an air purifier always running in my room at night. Then I didn’t bring it to college with me and it was a nightmare trying to sleep in a dorm. So I just ended up running my fan all the time with it just facing a wall. A humidifier worked well for me too once it became winter. I have always been a fan of sleeping with a nice background drone.
I usually have this issue for a few days in the fall when we start closing the house up. A couple nights go by and I’m used to the house being so quiet again.
I wouldn’t suggest going the drug route. Worst case get a white noise machine or even CD/MP3 to play through your stereo. Or, as others suggested, just run a fan.
I always sleep with the T.V. on. The drugs work great but I feel like I’ll sleep so good that I’ll keep taking them, and eventually need them to fall asleep. If you’re not worried about that then give it a try.
AC during summer. Fan during winter. If the standard oscillating fans aren’t loud enough go to walmart and grab one of the more powerful fans that just sit on the floor.
Another fun thing about melatonin is that you remember dreams vividly. I used to take it but it stopped working so I moved on to Ambien which knocks your ass out. Not that I wanted to take the narcotic route but I really can’t afford to not sleep.
