Out pops the Snowmorail!
I just had a bad ass idea for another project. basic idea is a single seater, maybe 2 seater sand rail chassis, long travel front suspension with skiis, skid plate/belly pan from the nose to the rear for floatation. steering wheel and pedals controll. either sled clutch style drive train or 6 speed liter bike motor/trans.
here is the cool part. the rear suspension and track drive. A newer style 144 track or even a mtn long track skid. by themselves they have 10+ inches of travel. BUT thats if the skid is ridgedly mounted to the rails chassis like a sled tunnel. My idea is a big swing arm, that mounts the skid and track, with its own single coil over from a jeep or a truck or what ever fits the bill. Picture a dirtbike swingarm, with a snowmobile rear suspension and track mounted where the wheel and tire would be! its like having high and low speed travel out back, with masive total travel! if the front suspension was long enough, and the ground clearance was highenough, you could set it up so soft it would feel like your riding on air, and still jump a house!
now, about riding the thing. Since its homebuilt, it wont have a vin so you cant regi or insure it as a sled (unless you wanted to and put the sleds vin plate on it somewhere), so NYS shouldnt be able to bark at you about being on the trails. and the trails shouldnt be able to bark at you for being an “atv” becasue technically its just a big sled! one track, and 2 skis. not tires to rut up the trails.
damn i have too much time on my hands!
