Hey I’m thinking on possibly gettin a used or new street bike. I don’t have a clue about bikes whats your opinions on certain brands? What should I look for if I buy a used bike? And would you guys take those classes they offer to learn to ride. Help me out alittle.
kawasaki zx6r
any 600 is decent to start on…i wouldnt get anything smaller cuz you’ll probably get bored with it within the first year
:ugh:
:shakeshead:
for a cheap beginner bike Suzuki GS500 not bad light and nimble, I have seen 96, 97 models for 1000 to 1200. It was a great starter bike. rode it for a year and sold it for what i paid for it. Just my .02 cents.
Also if you have never ridden or very little I would say to take the motorcycle safety course. Free and they will teach you everything. Just some advice that i give to everyone. And will make your insurance cheaper through some companies
ninja 250. ask quik i think he has one.
indeed he does.
PM me if you want his #
he doesnt have internet much at all…
my bro is sellin his zxr1000r…fun bike and you wont get bord of it
if youve never ridden, a 600 is the max i’d say to get. but even then u gotta respect it. if u don feel confident enough, then something like ninja 250 might be a better idea just for a year or so to learn on.
You could even get a Ninja 500. Their gearing is easier for a beginner. My friend had one for a first bike…it wasn’t a bad beginner bike.
nothing wrong with a 250. i bet i can probably out ride a few ppl on the 250. great learner bike. there is more to riding then being able to go fast or straight. ppl that think there isnt nothing to riding are the ones that get hurt very quickly.
just buy a 1000 and call it a day my first bike was a 929 and now i got a 600 and want the 929 back. people that say start small prob started small. start big and just take it easy thats what i did and my bro.
my buddy got a 1998 900rr and a 2000 zx7 for sale 4500 takes either one
both have pipes and other goodies on them
I took the coure last summer. Taught a lot and got me used to riding. If you have never riden before or arent really comfortable riding start off with a 500 or so. I know people who have gotten 250s and get bored really fast. I started getting bored of my zx6r when I was riding it everyday. But just respect the bike and be careful. I worry about cars hitting me more than anything.
I hear ya. That’s the biggest danger…cars. I worry alot about deer too since I live outside of town.
cars and everything else are dangerous but so are riders that think they can ride when they dont have the time. ive seen so many ppl get large bikes and get overwhelmed by the power and get hurt bad. riding a 250 and 1000 isnt much difference but there is at same time you dont respect and the other you try to but in the end you dont. when you dont it will bite you. alot of mistakes ppl make are from lack of experience. ppl go hot into a corner and hit the rear brakes, or they wait to long to set up the suspension and just clamp down on brakes. also they dont look thru the bend, they do target fixdation. see now yoru wondering you can do that on either bike yes but honestly youre not ready to. ppl that say you get bored of the smaller bikes dont have the heart for riding. what i can do on a 250 is almost the same as a 1000 except the power difference. no way ill be racing a 250 down the 1320 but it can get wheel up in the air. it can be dropped in the bends to drag a knee. honestly with a small bike it helps you learn not rush into it. see with a little bike you get more confortable on it but as males our ego tell us go big or go home. that is where we get hurt. i started small, stepped up then went small again. i actually had fun on the small bike again then went large then huge. doesnt mean i wont ride small again, give me a small bike and i will show the same skills as a large bike. this comes from experience and i still got years to learn from. biggest thing that makes me laugh is the noobs/posers/squids that really dont know how to ride but claim they do but when you take them down deep in the hills and moutains you lose them and when they try to catch up they end up getting hurt. so take time when learning no one is going anywhere when they take their time if you rush into it youll get bit hard. i love the statement a 600 is to small for me then a 1000. funny thing is some litre bikes are smaller in size then a 600. this always comes from a large dude. todays 600s out power yesteryears litre bikes. and then you get a dude that buys large and says yea i can ride it and handle it but wait youre just buying time. its more then just operating the machine its knowing how to handle any situation. then you got the ppl who take nothing more then the saftey course and swear they can ride. or the guy who has ridden dirt for years then rides a sport bike the same way. sorry a street bike a totally different way of riding. only thing you can carry over is the clutch operartion and braking. on a street bike 70% of the braking is done from the front and using only rear will get you hurt every time. also ppl dont always look to see what is on the ground and how warm the road is. see right now i got a sticky tire when warm its glue and only gets a short life. now you can get a less sticky tire but you wont beable to ride as aggressive and to some ppl that is fine. see my tire any temp under 60 makes it want to spin like crazy. now other compounds can take the colder temps but when its to hot the are mushy. this relates to the type of bike you ride. touring, sport touring, cruiser, sport cruiser, dresser, sport, supersport and dual sport. there is more to riding then most ppl think. alot of ppl want a biek cause its cool and they are the posers of the bunch. then you got the die hard riders out there. i kinda fit into both to a point i ride hard but like to hit the hang outs. but whatever you choose to do make sure you find a good rider coach and have them teach you the proper ways. your buddys may not be the right ppl to teach you. youll know the right coach when you run into them. i hope this statement goes to good use
I would start on a 600 or 750 if u dont have any experience or very little I mean anyone can ride anything if u respect wat u have Just be careful wit your right hand untill u get used to ridin I taught a girl who never even rode before to ride my bike and as for the classes If u dont have much experience they a good idea and it lowers your insurance too
depends on the insurance you have. like i stated anyone can operate a bike but doesnt mean they can ride it.
i’m small and wodent buy anything smaller thn a 600 or 500 for my first bike
I appreciate all the advise so far. I’m thinkin maybe a 600 to 750 would probably be best for me to start out with so I don’t get bored quick. I know if I get a 250 I’ll hate it in a few months. I am worried though mostly about gettin a bike cause I got 4 kids. And I’m a guy who likes to push the limits once I learn to drive or ride something. Thats the main thing holding me back. If I loose it I know theres no comin back. When I’m rippin around in my car I know I at least have some metal around me. Plus these damn drivers out there don’t respect riders at all.
So what I’m thinkin is if I get one I’d probably get a HONDA CBR 600 or YAMAHA R6. Used probably. I’m not to sure on the other brands but I know I like those two deffinately. Now my best friend does have two bikes 1 Susuki GXR600 I believe its yellow thats all I know and a Kawasaki Ninja 250. I know Kawasakis are good dirt bikes but not sure on the sport bikes. I like the Hondas and Yamahas mostly. Look good and I think they’d be easy to tune. Which is also something I’d do just like my cars. So between those 2 choices whats your opinions on the CBR to the R6?
