I have a tempurpedic knock-off also (had it for 5 years now)… I purchased it with an option layer of pillowtop built in because I didn’t want the full on “sinking” feeling.
I have a Simmons Beautrest… Pillow top.
It’s super, super soft… Had it for just under a year now, def the best sleep I’ve gotten (but then again, only other bed I slept on was… well, some mattress that came with bunk beds, so I slept on the same mattress for… hmm, ~20 years [assuming 2 years in a crib])
But yaaaa, it’s comfy.
Newman when you do end up deciding what you want realize the markup on mattresses are ridiculous and can always talk them down.
When I moved to VA I didn’t bring my bed because it was old and a pos, so I went to the store found an incredible pillowtop (forgot the brand) and it was like 3k, talked it down over 50% off as well as a frame/headboard, the works. Best investment ever.
2 things I will never skimp on again in my life:
- Buying a very nice mattress, sleep is so much better.
- Paying for a moving company.
Both are best money ever spent.
Dormia Mattress
AWESOME memory foam and latex beds
I just bought a queen semi plush mattress w/ a new bedframe @ city mattress for 1500. The matress was 1k, then we got the split box for 80. New bed was 275 down from 500 and then add back in all the taxes. Free delivery and setup yadda yadda.
Tempur is great but bear in mind that if you sweat when you sleep its goin to make you sweat more because of how it retains heat. They also have other probelms associated with the moisture to @ least that is what i was told.
Shop around and just find out what suits you best, its a big purchase because you might spend more time on that then in the lotus, and you will have it longer.
Yea, we have been shopping for mattresses too and have heard horror stories about those. The guy selling them said people return them all the time. He said people sweat too much on them and some people have weird reactions to the chemicals in the foam. Just something to keep in mind.
We found a really nice king sized Simmons Beautyrest at Valu City Furniture for $1050 with box spring, rails and delivery.
I sleep on a Serta bed that I got from a mattress company on ebay in georgia.
Its a piece of shit after 5 years.
LOL. you feel warmer on a coilless / foam / temper-type mattress because there are no unnatural pressure points, therefore you have better / full blood circulation. It has very little to do with the heat retention of the foam.
If you like having your balls cupped, you’ll like sleeping on a tempur-type bed. Also, keep in mind that most memory type (wether soy or latex) matresses have TWENTY yr warranties which will replace the matress if you get more then ~1/2" (?) impression. Our last “nice” Serta (individual coil) king wore the fuck out in ~6 yrs…
Interested in more info about these 1/3 price “knock-offs” though…
All the honest mattress places down here told me the same thing. They had Tempurpedic knock offs from 500-1000 depending on if you wanted a pillow like top.
They also said you do not need a box spring with a Tempurpedic type bed as long as it is properly supported.
I went with a conventional bed because it felt better to me, I just couldn’t get comfy on a Tempurpedic style one.
Oh my bed type is filthy.
gotta have a queen, i’m only 5’11" but my feet hang off anything smaller.
i have a sealy or some other major brand pillow top. it was fine until I hurt my back, now I HATE it. I’ve been sleeping on a king size bed that is much firmer lately, and it is a HUGE improvement.
I need to upgrade…
sweet, the monsters can’t hide under it.
I thought they went out of business. However, the mattresses are VERY nice. My parents have a Dormia bed, as do I, and we all love them. They make a lot of different variations.
edit: maybe they just closed the store locations http://www.abed.com/
Oh and Newman get a king, once you enjoy the room of a king you will wonder how you lived without.
So i went out and bought a king Rhapsody TemperPedic memory foam because of this thread. I went to about a dozen different places to try out and compare the knock-off brand memory foam with the benchmark TemperPedic. I hate to admit it…but there is DEFINENTLY a difference between the somewhat similar beds.
oh…and 2 Symphony TemperPedic pillows
Aparently these pillows sell at $140/ea.
I <3 the bed i bought… i dont doubt that there probably are differences, but for now, its been a great bed…
I just realized the value of a nice bed in the last few months…
YOU MOTORBOATIN SON OF ABITCH!! Please PM me this INFO!! I need one of these!! My hips, back, Knees and shoulder need this shit!!! Im sleepin on springs with cotton batting attached! that equals zero sleep!
after several days of comparing the knock-offs with tempurpedic…i FIRMLY disagree. I felt significant differences between the knock-offs and the tempurpedic. I laid in them for about 15 minutes each…long enough to fully settle and observe different pressure points. Try finding a better gauge than a pregnant wife.
All it takes is looking at the different ratings/densities to see they are not the same. Close yes…but the same NO.
I have this mattress. $1500 shipped and its been great. I have a small back muscle problem and this really helped it to not occur as often. Also I find myself sleeping through the night better. After 7-8 hours in this bed feels like 10 hours in my old one.
I think I need to upgrade to a tempurpedic, I have a pillow top I bought a few years ago from lockport mattress. Its comfortable, nothing special. What hotels have tempurpedics? I wouldnt mind trying one out for a night to make sure I liked it.
