Just got a quote which I’m not too sure I believe 100%. The car is an 06 Subaru STI with 60k miles, finally time for some brakes. What would the cost of pads and rotors be installed? Parts being used would be some no-name I imagine.
honestly they are SUPER easy to do, do them yourself.
Plus the parts wont be that expensive, save yourself the coin and do it yourself
Probably cost you about $100 to do it yourself. A chain like monroe would probably charge about $500.
I can get parts cheap through work…
if you have an sti and you pay someone to change your pads you should have your penis revoked. it’s a cotter pin and you drop them in…
rotors i heard are semi pricey, but never had to buy them, pads are 70-100 for some good street pads.
sti’s have brembos which make doing the swap super easy… buy quality parts online (group deals etc) and do it yourself with help from a friend.
for the entire system (all 4 rotors, pads, fluid) shouldn’t cost more than $400-$600 shipped etc. if you use quality parts. maybe save $200 off of that if you use shitty Chinese rotors that will soon vibrate.
unless you’re going to track the car, pick up some hawk HPS or ferodo 2500s.
I know I should just do them but I have a trip on Friday and need them done before I leave. There is a shop not too far away that said they can do it for $300 installed. I was thinking wtf… I’d spend more in parts, I’m curious what they will be replacing them with.
I’m not too sure how bad my rotors really are, how do I know if they really should be replaced? They don’t pulse or anything like that.
I have done my pads a few times but never the rotors, have you done those before?

Very cheap pads. not too sure how good they are but they are so easy to swap i will be getting them anyway.
If you dont need to do the rotors the pads can be done in under an hour i would be glad to offer you some hints… Honestly 300 is a rip for the 20 minutes of work that this will take you.
Okay, I just ordered these pads and I’ll do it myself, I really don’t think I need rotors, I felt the rotor with my fingernail and it is still smooth.
yeah, i think it’s 2 19mm bolts to get the calipers off, then the rotors come off.
you are going to laugh when you see how easy it is, also, you will probably never buy another car that doesn’t have brembos or a similarly simple caliper.
after the car you put together… the fact that you made this thread…
for shame.
edit: for this, I am ashame of you?
You will defnitely think you didnt to it right cause its so easy. Just pull those pins and work the pads out of the top.
Hmm i have to look again. Last time i tried it seemed to back the bolt into my strut and wouldn’t go any further.
++ for taking it way back
I guess the $85 shipped is better than $300. I just hope they come before friday. I’ll do the how to since it’s supposed to be nice and sunny all week
I appreciate the offers for help, but I’m about 7 hours away
u suk @ cars
I’ve only done pads once before and this was like 6 years ago, what and where do I grease?
you should lube ur anus since you’re acting like a woman!!!
Eat me fggt… I suppose i need to do rotors soon, probably after the winter.
Guess they really are easy to do:
