ive been on ls1tech for a while, after you said that i did a little searching on it, people only see gains around 20rwhp, i doubt it was from the cam alone. I am only suggesting because if your digging that far into the motor, dont put a z06 cam in it, theres cheater cams and such that make gobs more power that drive just like stock that are 100 times better then the z06 cam.
You might want to consider Holsets too. The biggest versions of the H1E or HX40 should get you around 500whp and spool earlier than 3500rpm if set up correctly.
I went with a Holset H1E (22cm exhaust housing) for my project LT1 Camaro (B4C) custom rear mount setup. I won’t be taking full advantage of it as I’m shooting for a mellow ~400whp/~500ftlbs @~7psi. I picked the larger exhaust housing so boost would come on later and more gradually which should help my A4 and 10 bolt hold up for at least a little while.
The Hotside is almost done, big ol’ diesel intercooler is mounted, I have the turbo/48lb injectors/255 walbro etc. I haven’t worked on it since last fall but will be picking up the wrenches again soon so I can get her on the road this summer. I have Tunercats and will be tuning the car to run E85 ;D
Drop me a PM if you want to stop by and check out the turbo or my setup.
The GT4202R is MASSIVE. its a 102mm exducer where myturbo is a 71mm exducer with a 53mm inducer… is absolutly HUGE, a GT4294R would be alot still.
Im gonna be doing a Cam swap here real soon shortly after my header install…but Im staying all motor on this one…for now :crackup
Anyways, When you do this…let me know. I love to get my head into turbo projects like this…
Are you deff. set on going with a Single turbo??? Or have you ever considered twins??
What you need to do first before you pick any turbo, is what type of power limit do you want to make…which you have a goal of 500-600 which is a easy set goal if you ask me…just by doing a ported head and Cam swap, you can almost make 500 alone, yet add some boost too it.
Also depends on what you want to use the car for, and what Rear end gears your going to have in the car…a Smaller gear (3:23, 3:42) is gonna spool up a hell of alot faster then a 4:10+ gear.
Honestly, you dont even need to have any of the bigger turbo choices like you picked to make your goal. You could get away with a GT38R, or a T72 and still have a ton of room to grow at 10psi and you will get some nasty spool time…Like On my stock 3.8 motor…I was spooling that T72 by 3800rpms on 17psi…I wasnt even into the compressor map rating of that turbo…That same turbo, would have seen full boost on a bone stock LS1 by 3100rpms…Can you say traction issues?
Why would you do a T56 swap?? Auto is faster with boost…
Your best bet is to research ls1tech cause most people on here have probably never turbo charged an ls1 besides maybe 3 or 4 people. There are so many proven setups on that forum your bound to find your answer.
Exactly. Not sure why people even ask these questions given that most platforms have already multiple mod paths.
