Not for a while but eventually. I will be working on supporting mods over the summer such as fueling drivetrain (6 speed swap) and suspensions. Plus the previously mentioned ZO6 intake and cam
if you are doing a came swap, look into a different cam then a z06 cam. To make 500rwhp on an ls1, you will only need around 6 psi if you do have supporting mods, and you find a better cam.
The ZO6 cam does everything I want it to. It will give me decent off idle power and very street friendly. It will sound and feel stock and it is proven to be great with boost. I know there are better cams out there for this application power wise but right now it isn’t all about power. If Parish can make 90 more whp from swapping the stock cam for a 01 ZO6 cam in his turbo 5.3 then I’m sold.
Choose the turbocharger that has a map that’s best suited for your setup and intended driving parameters. Don’t buy based on what everyone else runs or what they think. Have you actually plotted the maps of these compressors against your intended setup? If not I highly suggest you do as a properly match turbocharger makes night and day differences in performance. If you haven’t and don’t know how I can do it maybe later tonight and give you a dead nuts answer. I need to know what your intended engine redline is…
Fuck those, get the best turbo ever made, the awesome and massive 9B, Just one though. You dont need two, I dont know why they ever put two on our cars, just stupid.
I have already made my decision on the turbo and done alot of research on my set up. I was really just bench racing with ya as I dont have the coin to build this tomorrow.
As for the 90whp claim… Im not making this up. Parish is a well respected member of LS1tech and the LS1 performance community. He has built a sub 10 second Silverado and budget 5.3L turbo Ford Fairmont, which was the test vehicle for the following quote and 87whp cam swap claim.
maxed out mp70 on a 5.3 and stock 5.3 cam vs 2001 zo6 cam dyno numbers
set up. mp70 turbo, stock 5.3 other than springs, t400 with an overly loose converter.
first chart is a real good before and after test of a stock 5.3(blue) cam vs a 2001 zo6 cam(red). minimal variances, the numbers prety much speak for them selves. WOW!!! this is our max pump gas setting
next chart isn’t the greatest comparison but you definately get the idea. we ran out of turbo so we couldn’t get to the same boost level. you can see we are up 48peek hp even though we are down almost 4psi. does this seem insane to anyone cause it doesn’t seem possible to me. at 6100rpm we are up 87hp even though we are down 5psi
All three turbos I listed are very well matched for my engine and should all spool at 3500rpm or less with the proper tune
