What's the WORST job if you're an automotive enthusiast?

Actually, me and my two guys are still really into working on our own stuff. I’ve got the Allroad, and a very nice '90 535i, one of my other guys has a damn nice MkI Jetta 16v and '01 Wolfsburg Jetta, and the other has a kickass 240 coupe and beater Sentra (still a decent car). All get worked on regularly, all are in good shape. I suppose some of that is a result of not having to bring in every rusted hulk on the road, being able to be somewhat selective of what we work on so as not to burn my dudes out on headaches.

I’m in this position, but I drive the BMW privately and bought another vehicle for work. It’s not ideal, but it could be worse.

X…

How dare you call Paul’s Sentra a beater-I sold him that car.

yeah i do that now with a semi-track (fun car) and a modded daily… but my S14 wouldnt make anyone question because it’s an old japanese car. I couldnt justify $50k+ on a Porsche or M3 to have in the garage and only drive seldomly. At that dollar i’d want to drive it all the time and through winter

Gotta agree on general repair shop. Working on everyone’s rusty shitbox 5 days a week would probably kill my interest in cars pretty quick.

Selling Korean cars.

The other shitty part about it is that nobody ever thanks their mechanic. They just bitch and complain that fixing their rusty shitbox should only cost 100 bucks.

That sounds like a really bad vet. :mamoru:

Sales, in which you go to the customers home like I do sucks. I could have an 85 bmw 325 and some idiot would still say something about it being a “bmw”

And even worse is the hypocrite that says something about what I am driving that has a $50K pickup truck sitting in the driveway.

Jeller

BMW eh? You Jewish?

I used to get this all the time when I had my 95 M3. “ooh driving a BMW”…

“yeah, your 2011 civic is worth three times add much as my 16 year old car”

Good thing you bought an Audi to keep under the radar, slummin it!

Try selling them and dealing with stupidity. I sold all my cars once I started doing this for a living.

let me correct that.

working on everyone’s rusty shitbox 7 days a week sucks.

I disagree on this point, I get thanked all the time by my customers. I try to put taking care of everyone in front of all the other BS.

However I guess that wouldn’t be the majority of shops.

LOL^ But hence the reason for the avant  once they see station wagon, they dont care anymore. They are just like all the other general public.

truth

If you are in sales maybe a early 90’s taurus is the car for you. nice enough to get you around, but shitty enough that you might get a pitty sale? don’t forget the child seat. Just typing that made me thing what a rusty shitbox your average taurus is by now. Fuck rust

DirecTV actually works really well as a car enthusiast. Income is pretty decent and once and a while you will come across a major car enthusiast and you get talking then before you know it your scheduling for the day is SHOT. Think about that next time your “cable guy” is late to your house

I’m a licenced tech for an independent Porsche repair shop, I work on doctors, lawyers, professors and big business owners 80k+ Porsches all day long.

Love almost every minute of it.

Then I go to my small rented shop and rebuild Rotary engines, currently I’m restoring 2 FB RX-7’s for customers.

I Love almost every minute of it too.

Guess what I drive…a rusty 93 Dodge Ram 250. yay! No time in the day to work on my own cars. Fuck

Canadian tire parts counter that job sucked donkey ass
