LIABILITY.
Have you ever heard the stories of when a guy tries to mount a 40 or so series tire on a patched rim and it blows apart on the machine sending shrapnel flying through his head and everywhere else? Yeah, thtat probably isn’t going to happen, but when you are sitting behind the phone all day talking to Joe shit the ragman, liability comes way before making a quick 50 bucks. Hell, I machine rotors and drums here at napa quite often and if the thing is .001 under
spec, it goes in the garbage. I could lose everything if something did happen.
Bottom line is it doesn’t sound like a stupid answer to me. Actually it seems of questionable intelligence to not just buy the new rim especially if the car ever sees track use…
