took off my volks for storage in the winter (to prevent flat spots), so I took the opportunity to weigh them…here’re the results:
Front: 19x8.5 with 245/35/19 tires --> ~48lbs
Rear: 19x9.5 with 275/35/19 tires --> ~51lbs
Tires are Toyo Proxies T1R. From what i’ve found online, the weight of my rims should be around 26lbs and 28lbs for the front and rears respectively. Meaning my tires should be around 22lbs and 23lbs for the front and rear tires respectively again.
Anybody else bothered to weigh their rims? I didn’t get the chance to weigh my stockers, so I don’t really have a comparison point. THough from carrying both sets around, it seems like they’re relatively close in weight.
Stockers should be around the same if not heavier. Volks are well known for lightweight shit… it’s the tire and air pressure inside the tire that makes it heavier…
Here’s what I have found out from my previous experience with tires… DUNLOPS WEIGHT A SHITLOAD… I’m on dunlop direzzas DZ101 for summer tires, they’re noticably a lot heavier than other tires… my friend had dunlop FM901 on 15’s, then we compared to a bridgestone potenza (not sure which one) on another exact same 15 rim with same tire size. Dunlop was a lot heavier… by like 5+ lbs (estimating when lifting both).
A summer back, I worked at my cousin’s bodyshop as the lackie, and I did a lot of tire/wheel lifting on and off cars and SUV’s.
Keep in mind, I wasn’t that fit back then, but those SUV wheels+tires are easily in the 70-80lbs. I almost feel sorry for those guys that work in Malibu that deal with 26" rims on a daily basis.
haha, gotta love forged barrels! kinda stunned me to think that i’m rolling on 200lbs of stuff! Now i can’t wait for spring (for more reasons than this) to weigh my stockers to get a comparison!
Volk TEs are lightweight, but nearly everything else they make (incl. Winnings) don’t provide any weight advantage over stock, really. Of course, the increased rolling diameter of 19s in your case don’t help matters much, either.
