Last season I went to a drift event, went off track, flew through the air sideways and landed awkwardly on my seat and broke it, and almost my back while im at it, so to everyone I recomend get proper seat or at least a harness and a harness bar, it hurts lol. What happened is I though the recliner broke, but I actually snapped some welds in the frame of the seat, wow.
Anyway I left it outside my hosue for half a year and this is what happened, an angry squirrel family nested on it and fed off nissan foam and cloth.
Taking a closer look, when the seat snapped under me, the welds actually snapped, if the back support actually slipped back the bottom mounts could stab through your back… lol
and some more…
with a light push the whole rear part of the seat came out of the holes where the welds snapped and twisted out of place under my weight at track…
and yeah there were no squirrels, i just got bored and took it apart out of curiousity what broke, i have the top part that zips and and the foam no rips its in ok condition, 10 bucks obo…
actually, that is VERY common with 89 s13 seats i’ve owned many pairs and 90% of them have had that happen, and i DONT beat on them at all lol, it’s mostly because the seat is only held up right by one side of the seat the other side is a simple hinge so all the of the job of keepint the back upright is done by the side with the recline mechanism… so if your not a tiny guy like me any sort of real weight on them could cause this. . good to see nissan cared so much for our saftey with these…
