When UBRF died...

Yellowbullet was acquired by Verticalscope

I’d like for there to be a CDN / GTA peer to nyspeed where a small but strong group of employed and professional dudes did just what we do here.

It doesn’t exist.

I was never really into the offline community in buffalo, mainly because I was always in a state of building and didn’t have a fun car to bang around with. But I can pretty solidly say that ZeroDaze and others who shared their wealth of knowledge of turbo cars and Hondas really is what enabled me to actual finish getting my Civic built and drive-able. I’m not really seeing that sort of information sharing these days on NySpeed. That’s disappointing, and I’m sure that our members have the knowledge, but nobody here is putting the time into creating anything like this anymore, http://www.nyspeed.com/showthread.php?5693-The-BOV-and-you-a-love-story-er-write-up

It’s also really hard to compare a national drag racing forum to a mainly upstate NY forum.

People are still spending on hobbies, just a lot of them have moved on from cars.

I would say it is driven by a few factors to include time availability(career, family, house) and disposable income prioritization. Most car people I know dont really just stop enjoying it or want a toy even if they say so online. Which is why you see so many empty nesters go and pick up a sports car. Midlife crisis right? I would wager to say they have more time and resources to enjoy the hobby.

This will even be the same for me as soon as a family starts.(soonish). Its not that I won’t love building TT LS junk but I am sure I would rather enjoy time with my speculative family and spend the extra income on a college fund or vacation.

I have no issues with this forum. Good people, good car builds, good house builds, standard winter drama…

Find what caters to you, and enjoy it. If you don’t like the boards, move on with your life.

Hell, i’m here in CA, and because I am in front of a computer all day for work, I still frequent this site. I don’t see it ‘dying,’ so to speak.

This is probably true. I always loved cars but never really got into modding. I was heavy into autocross for a while but got bored with it, got kind of into track days but it was expensive. Now I can honestly say I have very little interest in cars other than getting me from point A to point B while being a little fun to drive. If I hit the lotto tomorrow I’m sure I’d buy some crazy vehicles but if say my salary doubled tomorrow I doubt my car situation would change much. They’re just too far down on my list of hobbies and interests.

The only auto-enthusiast thing I can see happening for me in the next couple years is getting in on a chumpcar/lemons team.

lol this.

it is dead and that’s because most of us core users are adults and would rather spend time with our kids than standing in a parking lot ripping on each other. The other forums I am on are very active and growing.

Just remember the good old days. I remember checking this forum 50 times a day.

DEAD!!!

I frequent the Miata forums because it’s tailored to specific interests I have with my car. I frequent the Ranger forums for the same reason.

I frequent this forum out of pure habit. But lately I’ve been less likely to open it up, because it doesn’t tailor to my vehicles, nor any other’s interest in my vehicles, the people I’ve met through this forum have my number, no need to post up meets, and lastly, and lately, the site has turned into a limited and mediocre Craigslist.

There was a lot of cruises and 1/4 mile trips from a large group of people here however everyone used facebook/texting to pull it off.

yeah most of the content here is off-line

I don’t view things much anymore because tapatalks new format sucks.
And facebook has pretty much taken things over as far as car content. The only builds I check on are cougar speeds and even then someone else already posted it on IG, and my friends I can keep up the same way.
FB is way better for meets and organizing racing events.
Forums die bc Ppl believe they are dying and are negative.
There’s nothing worse than posting something about your car and a bunch of ppl that have never done anything similar put it down. (Which happens here a lot)

NYSpeed’s Achilles heel is that it relies on the local car community. Specific car forums have a clientel that will always be there as long as the vehicle exists. Even broader forum types, like racing forums, survive because everyone there is there for a specific reason. We are here because we have/had an interest in cars. Now that some of us are out of that interest, or not as dedicated to it, the forum suffers.

I wasn’t around for the good ol’ days, so I don’t have much to add to compare then and now.

All I can say is I can’t stand facebook a lot of the time. Using it is a good way to invite everyone to a meet, but after that its a shit show. Impossible to organize anything, especially if you have a lot of people asking questions. If traffic could be directed here from facebook I think that would be best. Maybe send invites via FB and have link to the thread on here with the specifics.

Lastly I bet a lot more people are reading than you think, most times its tough to get in the discussions on here, mainly because 90% of the people that do post have known each other for a while.

I think its fairly simple.

The core of this forum has matured.

No more crazy 50 page drama threads.

No more crazy 50 page call out threads.

No more time for sitting in a parking lot for hours.

I still really enjoy the big meets, but really 2 or 3 a year max fit with schedules and other responsibilities.

I really wish we organized more things to do for the more “mature” group, but everyone has families and careers to tend to first.

I think what is most surprising is the level of successful people on here that 7 or 8 years ago should have died from excessive partying haha

My interest certainly comes and goes, but it’s nice to now have a project to pick at when I get that itch and have some free time. The “scene” definitely isn’t what it used to be, but neither are the priorities of most people from the UBRF days.

I used to be really into the car scene but now not so much.

Still check this forum for the threads on power outages, winter storms, etc.

Drive two new toyotas with toyota care, that shows my interest in cars now.

Also moved to Texas, I like to watch Buffalo from afar.

So no interest in cars, none at all.
