When UBRF died...

Same as its been for years.

Drew, Thorpe, & Me. Bing and GQ run the place. The monkey keeps the machine running.

edit: this place pretty much moderates itself though. Rarely does anyone need to intervene.

I haven’t been on except for a few minutes here-and-there for almost a month and a half because of work / being out of town. Back in the UBRF days I wouldn’t post for months when it was the middle of the school semester. I know in the spring / summer I’ll be back to posting more.

We all have our own reasons to use the forum or not. But the forum itself isn’t going anywhere.

:teehee:

I agree with this post for the most part. Not the meat part lol

Try it some time…:gay2:??

ah sad to see, having been around for awhile I have to say a few things.

1- I don’t live in Buffalo anymore, and I also sold my car and don’t even drive anymore unfortunately. I spend too much time on the road now to justify having a car sit in the driveway. The breaking point was not even enjoying the M5 anymore for what it was meant to be, and just using it to get to point A and B. The most excitement the car saw was the highway on the way to visit my parents house in EA, and that’s really not 10 percent of what the car can be in terms of fun.

2- I spend way too much time working to actually want to mod my car anymore. I guess I’m much more casually into cars now - I love them still but mostly appreciate others work rather than get involved myself. Which is part of what brings me here, to read what others are up to.

3- Younger generation seems less and less into cars now. I read a really good article on Jalopnik about it, and it talked about how this is a low point in interest for the currently “just able to drive” crowd. Hell, most people don’t really dream of fast cars anymore, they want to drive heavy luxury SUVs and view that as a pinnacle. Most wealthy people I know that can afford crazy toys seem to just want to drive something “comfortable” which means an overpriced Range they can “stunt” in.

4- Work pretty much owns 90 percent of my life, owning multiple businesses and touring all the time really cramps up time to do much of anything. Although one of my really good friends just got an X5 out here in NYC, and it’s really making me miss driving a lot!

5- Cost/investment. As I get older I find it hard to want to invest money in something that depreciates so bad. Don’t worry though I’ll be back soon with something financially stupid though, eventually. But right now, it’s not the time I guess.

Homies sayin he’s gonna have a helichopper

Haha.
Tell him to buy one of those cricut machines to cut vinyl and iron on materials.

@PumiceT if you still have merch I’ll buy some.

Oops. I read that as make ubrf merch.

I kept this so I could use it to make at least one old UBRF decal.

Speaking of dead forums.

What ever happened to sportriders.org (wnysportriders.org in the even older days)

Crazy, I was talking to a coworker about those two a few weeks ago!

I have two UBRF decals still. Found them in my Z service manual. I had been using them as bookmarks :ok_hand:

Mr. Smith put a small decal on our LeMons car 3 years ago, but we replaced that windshield.

I have a couple T-shirts in my closet, that somehow have shrank, from sitting in the closet…

i remember learning that MrSmith lived 3 houses away from me by posting about some red Civic on ubrf.

Through UBRF, I went to a few meets at Bubble Tea via 92RS a few times, bought some parts off either redrum or Toda, as well as bought and sold lot of stuff on there over those years it was active.
