so I have some traveling coming up, specifically brazil and I am seeing that my passport needs a visa as well. The closest Brazilian consulate is located in NYC and id really like to take care of this locally. Do travel agencies do this?
Mhmmm Brazil.

World Cup? Better get on that as they are getting flooded with requests.
I’d be surprised if this isn’t something that can’t be done on the internet.
apply for the tourist visa, probably by mailing a form to the consulate in NY
I can ask for you…lemme shoot an email off.
When are you going down? I am heading that way sometime in July.
Should be able to do it all by mail… I think going in person is usually only necessary if you are doing it on short notice
my girlfriend is from brazil and is visiting family in January. I was planning on meeting up with her for a week or so. Figure mid January id like to travel. There has got to be someone that does this stuff. Id hate to screw it up because of a technicality.
Check your vaccinations…
not necessary unless traveling into the amazon. which I am not. lol
I’ll let you know tomorrow.
That’s kind of short timing I can find out tomorrow
I got mine from CIBT Visa
Not a big issue in most places. Crime is ridiculously high though. Stay extra street smart and situational aware at all times, even during the day!
You WILL have to travel to NYC to get your Visa:
3. How much does it cost?
Tourist visa fees vary according to the nationality of the passport holder:
United States: USD 160.00, charged in reciprocity for an identical fee paid by Brazilian citizens who apply for a tourist visa to the U.S.;
The Consulate does not recommend or endorse any visa agency. The Consulate is not responsible for the services of visa agencies. In order for you to use the services of a visa agency when applying for a visa with the Consulate General of Brazil in New York, you must be a resident of our consular jurisdiction.
Plan your visa application in advance, as it takes the Consulate at least 5 business days to issue a visa. Longer periods may apply, especially in the high season. There are no rush or emergency fees. Visas cannot be issued on the same day the application is received.
No visa will be processed by any kind of mail including USPS, Federal Express, DHL, etc. The Consulate cannot be held responsible for mailed passports or visa applications and will not mail applications or visas back.
Do I personaly have to do this or can my GF or sister do it for me since they both live in NYC at the moment?
Looks like you can have someone do it for you:
If you cannot come to the Consulate in person, the application can be submitted by a third party, such as a friend, a relative or a visa agency. An additional absentee fee is charged if you do not bring your application in person (more information in the links below). Such fee is waived if you are applying on behalf of your father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister.
If all else fails you could just find a legit 3rd party agency that does it.
