So the time has come for me to get a CC, im 21 and have never had one before. I applied for some student card through Capital One and HSBC, and was denied for both, due to my lack of credit. I have no credit history at all. So now im lost, I have no clue what to do next. Should I apply for one elsewhere?
i just got one through chase a month or two ago. they have a rewards thing where you get 5 points for every buck you spend at a gas station or supermarket. after 5k points, you get 50 bucks.
im 22 with no credit, so i would imagine you would be able to get one as well.
Best card on the market right now is the Worldpoints Visa through MBNA. Rates are decent but the benefits are MUCH better then 90+% of the market. Even as a student, they will give You a good chance to get approved - so long as You dont have alot of negative history.
If You have poor credit history, there are still quite a few cards out there - but You will not like the 6/mo “participation fees”, the $89/annual fees, or the 15+% rates.
Basically, as a student they will assume that You’re going to have a decent income in a few years, and at that point they want to be in Your pocket.
I could go on for hours…
I remember my first Credit Card was through HSBC. I built up my credit through them and now I have a Disney Visa which was really hard to get. But I really liked HSBC.
My first CC was from Citi Bank. It was a student card that I got when I was 19.
I still have it but don’t really use it anymore.
My card of choice now is my Amazon Visa and the clear Amex. Amazon gives you gift certificates after you spend a certain amount with their card. Got myself a little something after buying an engagement ring on the card.
I got my first at 17 from the bank of omaha or some shit
student card of course
I got another one from MandT a world points visa or somethin…
Just keep filling out applications youll get one eventually
Could always get a sears card…they give those to ANYBODY haha
go get a target visa – sign up when you do your xmas shopping and save 10% on everything you buy as well.
:noes: this will end bad for the thread starter.
you can get a secured credit card from anywhere
that means, you give them 500 bucks, they give you a 500 dollar limit, so you they don’t lose money on you if you flake out.
That builds credit real fast also, shows that you are responsible.
opnce again me showing off but the best card on the market is the USAA credit card i’t sbeen that way for some time now …
actually they were letting civillians get them for a while
FTW - as opposed to applying everywhere
When were they publicly offered?? shit… sad I missed it.
first card i got was a american eagle card it had 100 limit from paying the minumum for 6 months built my credit up i now have a 2000 dollar card from key bank and my sears card. whatever u do watch for what cards has what. my sears car kicks my ass at 23 percent intrest
u also dont wanna keep drastically applying that shows up on ur credit and doesnt look good
if u have no credit, get a small card at like express or sears or somethin like that, after that youll get all kinda of offers in the mail from actual card companies.
you gotta look for a credit card? I get applications almost every day in the mail.
i like my gm card
:word: this is a good way too start…also open a checking and saving accounts with the same bank
join a credit union
i think im gonna look into one of those prepay dealies towards the end og winter break… thanks guys.
