A search led to some useful info on here, including an odd thread by reveal about asking how to build a shed… with much flaming.
Anyway, what do you guys do for building a shed?
16’x24’ is what I’m looking for.
12’x24’ would work, but not preferred.
84 lumber? Depot?
I’d rather just find the plans and build it myself, versus a kit.
I would just build it myself, but I can’t draw up approved plans for a building permit. I can make up some shed plans in Inventor, but I doubt my town will buy that off.
I am wondering why you need plans? I am not flaming but, I mean it is the most basic of structures. Are you looking for something “fancy” or just a basic shed?
How do you get a building permit without plans?
They’re not quite keen on me saying, yeah I’m just going to throw down a bunch of 2x4s, throw some plywood over it and call it a day.
OK, I didn’t think you needed plans for that. Last I knew in (East Aurora anyway) you didn’t need plans for something that small other than a sketch of the dimensions.
They do have plans at 84 Lumber. I think they are $5, but they have given them to me before when purchasing material there. I’m not sure on how wide of a variety they have though.
you’d be surprised what will pass for construction documents at your local code department to get a permit. for something as small as a shed you can literally sometimes get away with a pencil sketch with dimensions on a napkin. If you are good with inventor and draw up some semi-legit looking plans the worst that can happen is they will tell you what your drawings are missing. I do alot of construction document sets on the side by running a CL add.
I went to school for engineering, so I’m not too shabby with inventor.
Just figured it wouldn’t mean jack since I’m not actually an engineer.
Figured plans would make things easier as far as materials required as well
but if I can just make the plans myself… then that’s even easier :o
I’ll try to see if I can figure out what’s needed for what size.
thanks.
