I’m getting a whining noise coming from my tranny while going forward. The same noise that you would hear while going in reverse. Any ideas?
brakes were just done, it just strted today. I was driving and it popped out of gear. I had a hard time putting it back into gear, but when I did, my car sounded like it was going in reverse…
What kind of shifter do you have?
my tranny wines too. I don’t think its a problem. It wines in low first and second. My tranny is mint. Unless the gears are grinding or you have syncro gittering(sp?) I wouldn’t worry much.
But if its sounds exacly like reverse and the wine speeds up as your car speeds up, you have a problem.
Reverse wines because IIRC they don’t use spiral gears, they use strait cut gears. The are noiser.

 it wines but its hardly noticable unless you pay attention. All trannies are going to wine a bit. Your meshing gears…
the car is stock…the whining noise is pretty loud while going forward, louder than reverse actually…

It sounds like the bearings in your tranny are fucked, probably because there’s no oil in there. It will seaze eventually if you keep driving it, leaving you stranded and needing a tow. Check the oil in the trans, drain some out, if there’s any left. If it’s full of metalic bits find a used trans and change it. If there’s no oil in the trans change the trans.

yeah good point Martin. I bet thats exacly what it is, bearings. Would it be possible to loose 2.4L of tranny fluid without noticing tho? Wouldn’t you have to blow a seal. Would be a pudle in the driveway. Thats what leans me to bearings as Martin said.
Andrew.
There wouldn’t necessarily be a puddle, often oil will leak slowly and you won’t notice, or it could blow the seal while driving and all leak before you get to your regular parking spot. Or bearings can just wear out from abuse, gear grinding, chunks of metal in teh oil getting into them and wearing them. Drifting is especially hard on a trans…
Basically the fact he says it whins real loud in both forward and reveres, and when it’s hot it’s difficult to go into gear at all tells me that trans is fucked…
