Whiskey & Bourbon thread

My current lineup at the house:

Also, for the money, I’d be hard pressed to find anything I prefer over the Elmer T Lee.

my sister works for jack/woodford/old forrester so I’m a bit biased but the Old Forrester special is absolutely amazing. Longest continuously operating distillery in America (they survived prohibition with “medicinal” whiskey).

Any access to special releases / small batches?

These dudes run a few events locally. They do a “Whiskey Wednesdays” at Savoy, $10 for 3-5 samples. I havent been yet, but i’ve heard good things.

Whiskey is like revenge, best served cold and undiluted. That’s why I keep whiskey stones on ice at all times.

Milled from a very select type of soapstone located only in Vermont, these whisky stones are handcrafted in some of the oldest soapstone workshops in the USA.

Scandinavians have used granite rocks for this same purpose for hundreds of years, but soapstone has superior thermal properties and being mostly composed of talc, won’t scratch your glass.

Whisky stones are perfect for aficionados who enjoy their beverages with a slight chill, but don’t want to water down the perfect balance of flavors in their chosen spirit.

Stones are nonporous, so will not impart any flavors or odors to your drink. The perfect cube shape of the stones also forms a solid surface area that allows for a better and more even chilling.

Cliffs: Chilled whiskey and it doesn’t change the flavor. (you shouldn’t be drinking ice cold whiskey anyway if you enjoy its taste)

1792 has great bang-for-the-buck, very subtle flavor characteristics.

 good thread

You Jameson lovers that might want to try a nice sipping Irish, check out Red Breast.

I’m a rye sort of dude. I just finished my bottle of Colonel EH Taylor I got for my birthday, amazing stuff.

Pappy Van Winkle and Rip Van Winkle certainly have the hype around them. Not that isn’t good but yes hyped for sure.

Personally I’m a fan of single malt and grain Scotch and Whiskey. I prefer Highland and Island (part of the Highlands) Scotchs the most.

I like the following in no order

  1. Highland Park
  2. Glenlivet
  3. Glenmorangie
  4. Oban
  5. Talisker
  6. Dalwhinnie

As for blended whisky

  1. Crown XR
  2. Johnny Walker Blue, this is like methanol.
  3. Jack Daniels 1981 Gold Medal Series. This is great.

Whistle Pig is an AMAZING rye. A little pricey, but damned tasty.

I can grab some pics when home. At most times I have 10-15 different types at my house. Mostly Scotch from the Islay area. Campfire! mmm

Ardbeg and Lagavulin are my staples for sipping
Jameson - Shots bro but i do like shots!

I actually really enjoyed the Rogue bottle I had. Their rum was great.

At Christmas my siblings and cousins always share whiskeys and red breast is always there… We always joke that it is called “the priest’s whiskey” by some…because it is aged 12 years… this is at an Irish catholic Christmas so the joke doesn’t go over too well with the older generation

Ive had the privilige of trying a lot of different (Buffalo trace collections, AH Hirsch’s, George T. Stagg’s, Hudson, Pappy’s) bourbons while working at a liquor store for 2.5 years.

I was waiting for you to chime in

try as i might I just cant get into smokey scotch :frowning:

Glad I logged in today

I like Maker’s Mark most days. My last bottle was payment for fixing a broken laptop, becuase I’m too cheap tp buy it for myself.

Bourbon I tried recently: Noah’s Hill. 114 Proof, odd smelling nose; very boozy. Mouth taste and finish are very nice considering proof, caramel sort of tone.

Picked this one up last friday. V-day gift from the lady.

picked this little diddy up last night. Barrel strength = benefits from water. Its really hot right out of the bottle, but toss a couple cubes in there and once it waters it down a bit, its delicious.

I just finished the EH Taylor Straight Barrel Rye. One of my favorites.

Kait got me a bottle of Corsair Ryemageddon for Valentines Day. It’s delicious, and the chocolate rye they use with the regular rye really shines in a good way. It’s god damn strong though.

Nice, I’ll have to try that.

Picked up another bottle this weekend, because we walked in for some champagne for her and i have no willpower.

Their gimmick is they use water from the snow in the rockies to make it, and the high elevation imitates a much taller still… whatever that means…

Great thread, not sure how I missed this. I’ll have to contribute.

Does this club cover Scotch to? I know some people separate them and the non scotch whiskey/bourbon. If so I’m in for info.

My collection is the to the point now where I can’t even remember everything…I’ll have to snap a pic when I get a chance.
