I’ve got a spare subframe I want to brace up a bit and then have powdercoated. I know jedi does it but i havent seen him in a bit and hes farrrr, anyone else reasonbly priced that can powdercoat the rear subframe gold (like my wheels and cage and valve cover and… well you know)
To give powdercoaters a bit of an incentive, there’s TWO people that want a subframe powdercoated. I want mine in black, but I’ll take whatever is cheapest, I mostly want it for the rust-protection-ness of it.
jeff can do it but he’s in KW. maybe if you’re all super nice to me, i’ll take them home to kw with me in december and bring them back all shiney and new looking.
Im thinking about getting my subframe powder coated too since its out and sandblasted so if you find a place sasha or neone for that matter please let me kno the costs n location.
i have a PC place here in St. Catharines, they are affiliated (lightly) with CCF, the company that builds alot of my gear.
i dont know why you guys want to powder coat the subframes though.
both chris and i had them sandblasted and then just killed them with like 7-8 coats of primer and paints and clear… its more than enough.
you cant just do the centre subframe. you also have the rear spindles as well and there are exposed bushings and then the wheel hubs and bearings that are attached as well.
if you are really going to take EVERYTHING apart and coat each one individually then more power to you if you have no other commitments over the course of a week
some of the stuff you wont want to powder coat is what i am saying.
just powder coating the actual subframe and not the spindles is kinda weird too because you see the spindles before you see the subframe… well i guess that depends what angle.
oh god… 5 o’clock friday ramble… i cant even see anymore…
just paint get them sandblasted then paint them… a decent powder coat is going to cost you 10x more than paint and powder coat, depsite all the hype, does not protect or last any longer than paint… and when it does get chipped and scratched you are likely just going to redo it with paint anyways.
i give 2 shits about seeing it, or what it looks like in general. I have it off the car because i’m doing some suspension work and i figured powder would last better then spraying it.
However, I’m just sandblasting it and painting it with tremclad instead. My cage is all tremclad and it looks awsome and doesn’t scratch very easily. Also its good rust protection.
If it takes anyone a whole week to strip a Subframe and coat it then there is something seriously wrong…
I could strip a Subframe “bushings and all” Media Blast & Powder Coat every piece within one day. Hell it would take me longer to Media Blast every piece then it would for me to strip the Subframe down bare.
I’ll second what bing said. I went through a big powder coating phase with my off-road gear, including an entire baja frame. Man it looked great when it was new, and did resist chipping, but I’ve now switched to 3M paint that cures to a finish just as hard, if not more, and touch up is a breeze!
I still do powder coat the odd item for work, but it’s more to keep up good relations to get my personal stuff done on the side for free, hehe
