Steve needs a general machinist for this. Most automotive machine shops suck for precision work.
sadly, that is pretty rare as of late.
In defense of automotive machine shops, automotive customers are the cheapest mother f’ers on Earth.
If you take some rare piece to a shop and expect them to just throw it on a machine and start making chips then you can expect failure.
You get what you pay for and it is no different with machining.
If you don’t have a spare set-up piece then you have to be spot on with no room for adjustments on the first piece.
Depending on the tolerances involved it could take hours to set up.
Sometimes it is virtually impossible to make a good piece on the first try, especially when you have great material differences on car parts.
It is not like you know it is virgin 6061-t6 aluminum or w/e.
It is probably material that has been heated thousands of times and has been exposed to various chemicals, etc, etc, etc.
