Whole Life Insurance, a seperate asset class/"investment".?!?!?

With the market on such a downward slope. People are looking for a safer place to put their money.

Why not “invest” in life insurance?

Btw, this was an NBC video. It cant be refered to as an investment, but call it what you want… I personally cant think of a better name for it.

thoughts? arguments?

There is still the risk the insurer will go under right?

And will a rapid influx of insures affect the rates?

risk is inherent in any investment. that certainly is a risk of whole life.

i would classify whole life as an investment. from an accounting/financial statement disclosure perspective, you have to include the cash surrender value of whole life policies of c-level executives on the balance sheet, so i guess that is good enough for me.

Yes, of course there is a risk the company could go under, that is why its imparitive to do your homework and pick a conservative company thats stood the test of time.

I know of one that comes to mind :).

go on…

variable whole life has been an “investment” option since the '80s.

:fyi:

Im not talking about registered products or anything thats index based. I’m more or less talking about a paid up policy that pays dividends, from a mutual company that has YET to miss a dividend payment in its 160+ year history… yes, even in the depression.

Whole Life Insurance is first and foremost Life Insurance, but with certain companies namely mutual companies you can get great returns in a conservative enviroment.

One of the best things is that Uncle Sam can’t get his hands on the Cash Value. It grows in a tax-free environment and can be accessed at any time tax-free. Also you do not have to report the cash value on most tax filings such as Federal Aid for college and others.

There are many advantages to owning Whole Life Insurance. In most cases I agree with the common stereotype that Whole Life is a bad investment. But if you invest with the right company it can be a great investment.

I represent the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network and I know Willybeen works for New York Life, both are great Mutual Companies that have stood the test of time, which means a few things. Namely that they pay a dividend. This dividend is what makes these policies so great.

I believe that Whole Life Insurance should be a part of everyone’s portfolio. It is not the only investment you should own by any means. How much you invest depends on your situation.

Willybeen is I’m sure more than happy to explain this further as am I.
