Why are insects getting bigger?

I was just about to say. Saw a Dateline/2020 thing on them a while back, about soldiers in Iraq getting f’d by these things, crawling in to tents and in to soldiers beds. ACk!

If you’ve ever held a tarantula you’ve probably held a bigger more dangerous spider. Their max size is 6" across and they’re non-venemous.

Better question - Why do insects have eight legs now?:jawdrop:

HAHA…Reminds me of the Brittish version of the office. Good call.

This one spot at cayuga creek I fish has some big spiders usually around 3-4" diameter and their fuzzy. The one time I poked one with my fishing pole and the thing pounced on it, I’d like to say I just flinged him off but nope I jumped, dropped my pole and ran and screamed like a lil girl.

A coworker of mine’s brother is in Iraq and one of those things chased him down the air strip on the base. I guess they make some barking noise too.

your coworker’s brother is either a pussy or a liar.

I second that…I woulda unloaded 50 rounds into that thing before it even had a chance to “bark”

Also, they aren’t as big as they appear here:

Are you sure he wasn’t talking about something else when he said barking spiders?

I thought it was a wolf spider. Not sure tho.

and there is two of them there…either way…they are a big fucking spider…but everyone compares them to dogs…where as I’d compare them to maybe a possum or something

I used to be fine with insects/bugs. When I was little, my first pet was a scorpion that I caught (mom freaked, dad high-fived me). I lived in texas and used to also catch tarantulas and tarantula flies when it was the right time of year.

Now a-days, so long as it has 8 legs or less I’m okay. Once you get into centipede type stuff… yeah, I turn into the typical girl.

Im not even that good. I can come face to face in the woods with a bear and wolf and any of that fur stuff without even freaking out but snakes and spiders creep me out.

Quick step on it!!!

lol wtf is that, 2 kittens in one

Not many really bother me, but sitting on the can and having one of these run across my bare foot was not cool. I guess I can say it quite literally scared the shit out of me.

We had a bunch of those in my dorm back in college (old converted library). I actually saw one that, with its leg/antennae was at least 4 inches long. They’re fast too!

Whats really funny is watching a spider try to wrap up a large cigarette ash flicked onto his web. By the time he was done, he was completely covered in ash, and he had wrapped up a small portion of it. Realizing it wasn’t edible, he retreated to his corner. Yeah, I’m easily amused.

spiders freakin rule. they’re so cool.
