Hate to say, because it pools me with the “ignorant American” group, but…seriously…you’ve been here 20 years…learn the language.

To become a naturalized U.S. citizen, you must pass the naturalization test. At your naturalization interview, you will be required to answer questions about your application and background. You will also take an English and Civics test unless you qualify for an exemption or waiver.

And yes, I realize I he can speak English but it choosing not to because it’s not his first language.

Both assholes! :fu:

Dey dooookkkkkkk errr jerrrbsss

Should the guy be speaking spanish? No, especially if he is trying to argue for immigrant rights. Should the senator be rude as fuck while he is speaking and berate him like that? eeh, not really. Everyone was already thinking it, no need to air it out and make yourself look ignorant.

^ The senator should have used more tack, but I’d be more upset if he said nothing at all.

When my grandpa and grandma and father immigrated to this country from Germany, they did not expect road signs to be read in both english and german, nor warning lables, nor ANYTHING. They learned the language just like every other European immigrant.

I could go ON AND ON, but I am a bit biased as I did live in a border town on the mexican border for quite some time.

My grandparents wouldn’t even teach Italian or Polish to their children as they felt they should know English and English only. Weird.
