YES This all started in 2005 but in 2008 it was finally decided that the owner of said restaurant was within his rights to post this sign within his establishment. That’s the point: for once a judgment was in the peoples favor.
I guess it’s hard for a country of two languages to understand but imagine if Russians flooded to your country. Your products: you only have two sides to display information, French and English. Now everything you see also has to be in Russian. Why? French and English are your languages! Your restaurants are constantly bombarded by the righteous that believe you are racist scumbags because you can’t communicate in Russian. Why the hell should you?! They came here, this is YOUR land!

Lowes and other corporations do that as a way to avoid alienating a huge segment of consumers in the USA. Keep in mind, who do you think site supervisors are going to send to the store for more paint? The English-speaking well-paid workers, or the Spanish-speaking low-paid workers?
