Wind farms messing with weather radar

http://www.erh.noaa.gov/buf/windfarm.htm

I use the radar a lot when deciding about taking the boat out and had noticed that stationary storm line several times and thought it was odd. Now I know what it’s from.

Ah, that makes sense

Pretty interesting, I built those windmills

i would say that i assembled them if i were you, taking credit for building something that fails on a regular basis would suck. +1 for you, i’m not one for heights

Eh I only did the bases/access roads/crane pads so I really have nothing to do with their functioning. I don’t think the problems they have been having are with the windmills themselves but more so with the power grid, and someone shooting a hole in one of the blades. They did have a the brakes on one of the cells in the Adirondacks causing the blades to spin to fast, flex and hit the tower causing it to flop onto it’s side. Wish I could have been there to see that

Windmill failure in Denmark:

they are/were repairing the windmills on the waterfront for the second time because the blades were cracking instead of flexing.

no^^^shit …can you imagine seeing 10 of theses things explode on windy days.

They had faulty gearboxes because they went the cheap route instead of buying from GE and that is what is causing all the problems. Either way the article isn’t about the 10 or so on the water front and the 200 or so in wyoming county

You figure the more demand for these things there is the more wrinkles they will have to iron out before they get it right.

Or hopefully they realize what a waste they are and abandon the idea of giant wind farms entirely. The return of watts vs acres is horrible. These wind farms will be our generation’s 190 and skyway, but on a national scale of wasted space.

Commercial power needs to be looking at nuclear power.

A much better use for wind is small individual turbines installed by homeowners.

that was the first time they had to repair them, this time its for the blades. and i know the article is for the ones in wyoming county, just wanted to share some info on the ones on the waterfront
