Windows Registry Help

I have a excel file accessed by multiple users. I need to change the username on individual pc’s to reflect who is accessing the file. Changing usernames via user accounts and via administrative tools yields no results.

Not really sure what your asking…

Is the file shared on a server?

Umm yea you need to clarify what you want, if you want to see who is accessing the file regardless of computer, you won’t be able to enumerate username is a non-AD setup, but you might be able to see a IP via the MMC Shared Folders snap in.

Not understanding the question either.

Sorry, garbage in garbage out. No servers, no active directory. When the file is open by a user and another person tries to open it it will say the file is locked and in use by YourCompanyName, unfortunately the username YourCompanyName was set up on multiple computers.

Put the file on one computer…Disable simple file sharing…Create users have users access file via SMB/logging in.

It should say the file is open by computername/username if you do it that way.

Ok that sounds like word/excel actually populating that.
