winter tires-nokian vs. the rest?

I think once you get into quality winter tires, there is a trade-off on deep snow ability vs dry road performance. I’ve found a good balance of the two in the Michilin Pilot Alpin PA2. I love these tires on the STi.

I am on my third season and they still look new. I have never gotten stuck with them and I pass 4wd trucks all the time in the snow. I just picked up a set for my wife’s car.

bridgestone blizzak WS-50’s for life… FWD turbo pwning ford explorers

I can’t believe how good hakka’s are for how shitty nokians are in general. Winterforces are awesome for how cheap they are. I actually prefer alot of the cheaper snows like coopers or cooper off shoots, or something like that to an expensive snow like pirellis or michelins or blizzacs. I have pirellis on my srt4 and they suck. If z rated is important then you might have to spend the money for the good brands but alot of times they are no better in the snow.

oh and i am VERY particular about my tires but i would take artic claws over michelans even if the price was the same.

also hankooks are good mid range tires.

I guess I am a bit of a tire snob too, I will probably go with nokian again, though the hankook ipike does look quite good and is quite a bit cheaper, also has a very similar tread pattern to the nokian RSI

I use the Winterforce’s and they are great. I have not got the Supra stuck yet, and I try.

for all out snow/winter, nokian > *

there are however some other decent tires for more mixed snow / dry day like the H-rated Dunlop Wintersport M3

i havent seen too many snow tires that can handle FWD plus 14psi in the snow. the hankooks can. i was suprised.

i have cheap sams club pacemark snowtrackers on the wifes neon. they rock for 40$ a tire.

i find it humorous that the folks in the cities where the roads are mostly clear relatively quick are the ones that shout the loudest that everyone needs to buy expensive snow tires. when i leave for work, the plow hasnt gone through yet and there is a foot of snow on the ground. for years i drove a k car with all seasons with no issues. the tracker i have now still has all seasons on it but they are a little chunkier than what i had on the k cars of the past. :gotme:
