I got a ticket yesterday for operating an unregistered vehicle. According to registries, you have 14 days to register a plate to a vehicle. According to the police officer thats only if you just bought the vehicle, not if you already owned it. I put the plates on my car because I just got it back from getting a new engine, and it hasnt been 14 days. The ticket was $230, which I will be fighting because Alberta Registries told me nothing like that, they just told me I have 14 days to register the stupid plate.
I have a feeling a radar detector wouldn’t have helped the situation much.[/quote]
Yes it would Dave, dont you know a radar detector will ALWAYS save your ass because cops ALWAYS have the Radar on and dont turn the gun off.Sarcastic
Pay the ticket or fight it, it doesnt maktter. Just learn from your mistake.
Hahaha exactly. My radar detector saved me a few times but it isnt something you can depend on. I wonder what would have happened if you told the cop NECC was some underground street racing/drug running club…
HAHAHA Whats up with people trying to fight stupid tickets, speeding and then saying that no one ever told you those grey signs on the road were the Maximum speed you should be driving. You thought they were the minimum…

Feeling a lil stressed lately??
As for Jeff, ya man even states in the crimal code book. Ignorance of the Law is no excuse!! It does only work if you recently purchased the vehicle. What ya could have done was paid the $10 for an In Transit sticker and you would have been good to go!!
I think that that IS a bulltshit ticket and they could have let you off with a warning.
I’d fight it too…it’s the registries job to inform you of the law. Ignorance of the law isn’t an excuse, nor is it a reason to condemn someone. How many of you know your copyright law? This is the reason we have lawyers. Lots of lawyers.
Register your car and take the papers to court, say I was going to register it but I was busy with school, etc. and the registry office told me I have 14 days. After I got the ticker, I went and got the car registered properly, so I think the fine can be thrown out as I’ve now complied with the law and am aware of it.
No I think what happened was he had the insurance and registration on his 240 till it broke down, then he switched it back to his other vehicle he had. Now he went to get his 240 and used the plates and reg from the vehicle he is currently using. Am I right Jeff?? So thats why he got the ticket!! He wasn’t condemned for the excuse of not knowing the law, he was condemned for not having the proper paperwork.
all in all you got a shitty deal, just another bogus ticket!!
if i can offer my 2 cents. if they wont throw out the ticket then tell then court that you will be willing to plead to a lesser charge or you will pay the full extent of the fine if they wipe out the demerits. thus no demerits=you dont have to tell your insurance company.

Stressed? … yea thats it.
When i got pulled over cause my registration was out i got a $200 ticket for the car not being registered i got a $200 ticket for the plate not being registered to the car (Old plate off my old car) and the car got towed which cost me another $150 in towing and impound fees. This happened even though i had insurance on the car and a bill of sale.
Thats why i think you should quit your complianing and just pay the ticket or fight it just dont come whining because YOU got a ticket for being ignorant and they let you off easy.
We got pulled over last night in mexico. we were drinking in the car but because the driver didnt have a drink or act drunk, we got off. didnt even have to brib the cop. :E
