Wow, a good idea for the grain elevators

Hey Newman… is one of your climbing buddies involved in this project?

I like this idea better than playing videos off the side of it. At least this is useful…

I work down there a lot and it would be really nice to see it being used for something.

One of the guys involved, Brian Kruszka jumps at our local DZ.

That’s really cool. It’s almost as good as my idea for turning the windowless structure designed for water access into a boat accessible strip club complete with mobile barge that can float into Canadian water to go fully nude. I came up with that idea while out on the boat thinking how nice it would be to have some naked chicks. Hire strippers for your own boat ala bachelor parties. Etc.

I’m fucking brilliant, but I’ll never run with that idea so I give it to you guys. Anyone with a life situation conducive to starting a strip club may take it and get rich. Just give me free lap dances.

This reminds me of the box truck lap dance mobile at cruise night. Super classy.

Boats are so much classier than rape cargo vans though.

People are pledging money too: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/grain-elevator-rock-climbing-center

… now will the preservationists actually allow them to modify the structures for these uses?

Here’s the indiegogo link to raise money: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/grain-elevator-rock-climbing-center/x/2677392

It’s a great idea. I’ve seen it work in other cities but I question what ground work they have done already. Can city bullshit still get in the way? Who owns the silos? Living in Buffalo has left me skeptical of any new/cool ideas becoming successful. Fuck, preservationists may still yell at them for drilling holes into the concrete for the climbing holds. :banghead:

EDIT - God dammit, Josh.

Word. Chicks love boats. They’ll be willing.

If it doesn’t fit Tim Tielman’s exact vision for downtown expect a lawsuit.

Because of the implication.

well fuck me. I wrote that idea down at the brainstorming session held at the harbour club like 2yrs ago or whenever that was…

uhh this idea is fully endorsed by the preservationists… I’ve been getting email basts and facebook shares for the last two weeks from everyone in that community asking for donations. (without a single dissenting voice I might add)

If these were torn down years ago like all the “progressive” buffalonians wanted there would be no grain elevators to put a climbing center in

also the guy who owns silo city is more or less a preservationist. no problems there

I think I suggested this about a decade ago. I know I did for the old grain place in East Aurora when they were repurposing it.

The preservationist comment was more of a joke. My main concern was city BS, but if the actual owner is on board then :tup::tup: Do you know who owns it?

yep, rick smith. same guy who owns rigidized metals on ohio st

noone has beef with adaptive reuse, preservationists just want beautiful or historic structures to not-be-knocked-down-unnecessarily.

BOBBYGRV: the projections weren’t a “hey let’s use this for this and this is all we should use it for.” It was a “hey here’s something cool we can do to create an event worth going to in Buffalo, and bring people and attention to this part of the city we’re trying to develop.”

When the erie canal harbor development corporation was talking about spending millions to build things that wouldn’t even be to the stage of bringing people or events, Mark Goldman (owner of Hardware, BRKB, former owner of the Calumet on Chippewa) led an initiative with his brother (who developed South Beach in Miami)

^read. good article.

anyway, they were leading the initiative of “lighter faster cheaper!” You don’t need to spend a billion dollars and wait through a 15 year construction process to start using something uniquely and creatively, bringing people to the area.

Bump. After an entire year of no updates, they have finally updated us basically saying “We got your money, we didn’t plan accordingly, go fuck yourself.”

I’ll be amazed if they get anything going again. And furthermore if they actually ever honor any of the promises made to donors.

they should ask ECHDC if they will allow it on the back of the elevator across from canalside.
