WTB 02 Spec -V

Like the title says i am looking for a 02 Spec-V. Must be low km. Let me know what you got.

I seen a black v-spec at Suzuki on 34th about a month ago. not sure if its still there. Clean looking car, not sure how many kms I belive it was an 02 becuase of the front bumper, dunno if the 03 had the “gtr” style font end.

Josh.B

Does it have to be an 02 with a red interior or can it be an 03 with silver/black interior? Cause I have an 03 for sale…

I’d recommend you get a 2003 or up, I’ve heard bad things about 2002 as there were a few bugs to be worked out. gearing is different, i think shifter linkages different, few other things

check out http://forums.thevboard.com or http://www.specplace.com/about.html or b15sentra.net lots of good info there.

IMO 2003 is the year to go with, still had the aggressive exterior (sort of gtr like as JoshB said), more subdued interior (silver and black as opposed to 2002’s “lava” red). And you may find some 2003 that still have warrantys or extended warrantys.

and a bump for newguy’s post, i’ve seen his car, its in good shape

Yep it was still there about a week ago.

ive been in newguys car for a ride, low km i think, treats it well. runs good. BUMP for newguy

Hey, thanks guys.

~54000KM’s mainly highway.

I was thinking 02 because they are alot less than an 03, closer to what I want to spend on a car. Any 02 Spec V owners on here, that can input on quality of the 02’s? Are they crap?

I don’t think the 02’s are crap, its just that they were the first model year for the SER Spec V’s, so there are almost always a few issues to be worked out with any new model of car.

That being said, there are many people with high km’s on 02 Spec V that have had no issues, car has been great, really happy, etc.

I just think that the chance of having some problems is higher. There are known issues with these cars no matter what year (butterfly screws, precat, etc) and 2002 MAY be more prone to them along with other small things. Check out those links I posted above, and check out some of the stickied forum topics, they cover a lot of the problems.

Don’t be scared of SpecV’s and/or 2002, I love my car but I think you need to be careful when choosing one and know about what “could” be an issue.

The gearing change I mentioned is shown here: http://www.specplace.com/owners.html

Not sure what the gearing change does, can somebody tell me? I think first gear is taller right? Does that make slower?

I drove the car from Toronto to Vancouver in 4 days in my 02 and she still keeps on going like a champ. I have not had to bring it into the dealers for a problem yet, except for oil changes.

It will be for sale next spring if you are still interested. 125k km’s.

First and second gears are pretty short but they rev really fast and give you great torque off the line. Only downside I can see is daily driving, you have to go into second quicker then you should.

mine is an 03, and i might sell it next summer it has 63xxx km’s

is that pretty low? i think so if the avg. is 20,000k/ yr right?

I have an '02 and had some troubles with the shift to 3rd (though I’ve heard almost all Spec Vs have clunky gear issues). I fixed this by putting redline tranny oil and installed a short shifter (80$ shipped and very easy to install). Some people like the lava red interior some don’t, I like it cuz my car is silver so I think it goes well. With a couple mods (header for precat, short shifter for gear issues) and also loctiting butterflies, I think you will enjoy the car and not really have to worry about it any less reliable than other cars out there. I love the 6 gears, lots of shifting though for trafficky areas it could be bad. I drive to and from work on highway 2 so that’s not an issue :p.

So jutes your car is not for sale now? I am interested in seeing it its just a matter of when I can get up to Edmonton

No, not at the moment. I’ve decided to keep it until next spring and sell it then. It would suck having no car for a couple of weeks in the winter.

^^^^^ Damn that sucks for me

Actually I think I have figured this one out. I use to have a 04 and had the same issues with the clunky gears. But when I got my 05 it was fine. When I bought a Short Shifter from Nick we realized it wouldn’t fit my car. (different internal linkage) So I started looking for a transmition short shifter, well guess what. Nissan makes 2 type of shift linkages for the spec v. 2 different internal ones and 2 different tranny side ones.

Well, if you can’t find anything now, just remember that mine will be for sale in Late March early April or whenever I find the STi that I want.

Personally, I love the clunklyness of the 6 speed. Everyone who has driven it says that it is very easy to get into gear and you can actually feel it.
