Personally for that kinda stuff I’d go with a 12-15K in rated capacity. I dislike lifts for many reasons and have worked on lifts at ~80% of their capacity and it’s sketchy to me. IMO spending the extra for something a tab bigger is always better, even if you’ll never use the rate limit.
Many of the four posts with dropouts and/or air jacks are coming way down in price. Considered looking into a used or refurbished four post?
We paid like $3.5k or something for it. So I don’t you need anything crazy like 15,000 pounds if you’re working on trucks such as the one in the picture above.
Would be even nicer if my dad wasn’t such a mess. There is so much crap in there it’s ridiculous. My garage would be as clean as some of those you see in those pics of awesome garages people post on car forums from time to time.
But anyway, I don’t think you need anything crazy for a lift OP.
My cars curb weight is 3,900lbs. How much heavier can that truck you posted a pic of above be? 6k?
EDIT: Didn’t read your OP fully and see you’re looking for a 10k. That’s about what I’d get if I was looking.
this…With something of this nature where you will stress it, best to be under capacity. You also have to look at the load exerted on each arm by the utility boxes and what not. Each arm has a rating.
