WTB: Complete turbo installation on 01 Civic LX

A friend of mine is ready for a turbo kit.

He’d prefer some used crap, but he would like 1 person/shop to be 100% responsible for collecting parts, installing parts, and getting it running. Tuning can happen by someone else.

It is a 2001 Civic LX, non vtec, 5spd… umm, that is all I know.

He is looking to spend 5k or so… will he have a reliable, quick car for that much?

He doesn’t know much about these cars at all, which is why I’m on here asking for the work to get done.

I believe he is looking for a basic turbo setup, and beefy driveline components, like clutch, and halfshafts.

HC - This is primarily directed at you. Please get me a quote, or a round-about $$$ amount.
Once he gets an idea of what it is going to cost him, he will throw some money at you.

Thanks,
Jack 901-1081

have fun with the fuel system on that. i believe you have to change it from returnless to a return set up. and from what i hear its not too fun.

why does everyone always think you HAVE to switch to return fuel system? its perfectly capable of staying the way it is, you just have to know how to do it.

people said the same thing about mustangs… 800+ wheel w/ returnless doesn’t seem like a problem for them, 300 shouldn’t be a problem for this car.

i just got that impression from the article in hci or turbo i cant remember what one it was. if not that will save a lot of time.

I gave the information to Don, he should be getting in touch with you Jack…

300WHP on a non vtec SOHC motor is going to be a stretch.

Does he care to swap motors?

the stock rods will not handle 300 whp
they are a hair larger than d15 rods and a little smaller than d16 rods.
getting aftermarket rods is also an issue. the d17 used a thinner big end so the d16 rods wont fit (they are the same lenght)

Crower makes them for the D17. Not that much of an issue just $$.

We make pistons for it too.

Rods and pistons have been proven for atleast 250whp on a D17. (experience)

The axles and tranny are weakest links on the D17 for the 300 mark.

We are working on an IM, FR & axles for that car.

We also sell a D17 turbo kit in his price range.

^
250 isnt 300
it will not hold together

but what do i know about the dseries

how much is crower charging for those rods? they dont have the price on the site. i looked in to having them do d15b rods and they were going to be like 700-800

I never said 300 on the D17 stock internals. I have proven 250 is what I am saying.

Crower is charging $785 for them.

Guys, Sorry, I just threw 300 out there for the fuel system discussion.

If it will make 250fwhp, then I will have to run that by the purchaser… if it will make 225… same thing. I don’t care how fast it is or how much it costs, not my car, not my money.

Still waiting for Don to gimme a ring.
Thanks.

Yeah let me know. Been making and selling these kits for about 2 years now. I am pretty damn well versed in this car.

Link to an entire section for his car on my site.

dezod, im sure its doable, but reliabilty becomes an issue at that point. you’re pushing the envelope. a change in temp causing a boost spike a couple times and it will break a rod… and even that is assuming its on a good tune. we all know how people think…

spend money… buy turbo… bolt on… foot to floor

(tuning is never thought of)

anywho, good luck with it jack, tell your friend not to get greddy with it.

This true with the foot to the floor notion and tuning sad to say.

fortunately he isn’t greedy. He won’t be looking for max power… just more power.

Waiting for him to get back to me. He hasn’t been online yet to check it out.
