WTB: Nvidia GeForce 6800GT

Anyone have one for sale? I need it so I can convert it to a Quadro card for a workstation here at work.

You can convert them to Quadros? Explain… either here or in pm, I’m interested

PCI-e or AGP?

i have a 6800gt asus card sitting here not being used. let me know it works fine never oc’ed or anything.
$140?
its pci-e

I need the AGP version… sorry I forgot to mention that.
Solarian, you can convert them ONLY if they have the right GPU. the NV40, NV45 and NV48 cards can be converted. So… the 6800GT has the NV40 or NV45 GPU (forgot which one) and all you have to do is use RivaTuner to convert it. I’ll send you the PM on how to do it…

Thanks, that’s an awesome price… but I only have AGP here :frowning:

I guess you guys can lock this up. I found a GeForce 6800GT card off ebay. Just so you know, you can EASILY turn this into the Nvidia Quadro FX4000 card… it just takes a few clicks in Rivatuner
Here’s the result:

Also, this card costs 1500USD on average

So taking a 100 dollar card and turning it into a 1500 ain’t bad at all

are you serious…you got the steps on how to turn it into a quadro? i would really love to know how to do that.

yup, here you go

The correct way to change between GeForce 6800 GT / Quadro FX 4000:

Go to the "NVStrap driver" page in RivaTuner.
(To get there: "Customize..." triangle -> "Low-level system tweaks" (left-most) button, then select "NVStrap driver" tab)

"Use ROM straps for PCI programming" should always be ON.
This is what makes this so easy, so you don't need to patch drivers, etc.

Then there is 2 things to do when changing:

1.
In the "Graphics adapter identification",
switch from "determined by hardware" to "Quadro" if you want Quadro,
or back to "determined by hardware" if you want GeForce.

2. "Unlock professional capabilities"
- this should be switched ON when you want Quadro,
- or switched OFF when you want GeForce.

Then just click Apply, then OK.

RivaTuner will tell you to restart Windows,
after you have restarted, Windows will use a bit more time to find the "new" card,
and look at the "oem**.inf" file etc, all is automatic, just wait...
..then, your card has been changed.. !

Just make sure you get the latest Rivatuner

sweet! time to look for one! bwhahaha. oh how much did you find your agp version for? on ebay that is

150USD + shipping. It had the “Buy Now” option…
but I’m sure you can get one cheaper than that if you start bidding on one.
I tried looking for one locally, but I had no luck at all.

price aside

what is the difference between the two cards?

does it actually convert it to a card that performance identically to the quaddro or is this just some silly mod that will allow you to use the quaddro drivers.

just doesnt make sense to me thats all.

The actual Quadro FX4000 card is identical to a Geforce 6800 GT or Geforce 6800 Ultra card… the NV40 chip, PCB layout, memory, etc… The only difference is how the card is detected by windows. You basically use Rivatuner to tell windows it’s a Quadro card and windows will search for Quadro card drivers.
The drivers will enable you to use the advanced features of OpenGL that are used in 3D Studio Max, Autocad, Solid Edge, Solid Works, Pro/Engineer, etc…

If you play games with Quadro cards, the games usually suffer in performance a little bit (because of the different drivers).

As far as perforance goes b/w the “real” quadro card and the quadro card you install using the 6800GT, there’s none since the hardware is identical.

edit: Nvidia and ATI produce the same chips for the “gaming” cards and the “professional” cards… Now they changed the architecture of their Quadro and FireGL cards. So turning Radeon cards into FireGL cards is slightly more difficult. But Nvidia made it simple… simple for them to make “pro” cards and charge 10 times more for the exact same hardware
