I got a CAI today (good for 47whp!!!OMG!!11!). I decide to install it today aswell. During installation I apperantly move the wiring harness a bit for whatever reason, in my way or something. I put the new CAI on, and start her up. It has the shittiest ideal i’ve ever seen, jumping from like 200 - 1400rpm. So naturally i’m thinking WTF?? I say fuck it, i’m supposed to be leaving to go out in about 5 min, don’t have time to deal with this, and slap the old stocker back on. Start it up, same damn thing. Again I’m thinking WTF?? It isn’t until this time I look in the engine bay, AND…my wiring harness got caught in the fan! Doesn’t look to bad though, so i fight with it and get it out. Two wires are ripped in half. I say, “what the hell can two wires do?” I go to fire her up, absolutely nothing, seems like my battery is dead. The only way I know it’s not, is the fact that all the interior lights and what not are on. I then solder the wires back, check, double check, triple check that everything is connected and that no othe wires are ripped or anything.and no that I can see. Go to start it up, NOTHING again!
So, bassically what that long speech is about, is if anyone can help me figure out wthat the hell is wrong with my car. If someone actually wants to come over and try and figure it out with me, then awesome, and I will have some beer for ya, and lunch or somethin if you want.
so, when the wiring harness got caught in the fan, did it put alot of force on it? because it might have yanked on the wires so hard it caused a break somewhere else, or pulled the wires out of the socket pins on a connector or something like that. and it might have just pulled a connector off of something like the MAF(wouldn’t account for the lack of power but the crappy idle) the lack of electrical power is a bad thing obviously. double check your battery has alot of power, the amount required to turn over the engine is 50X what’s needed to turn on an interior light. check your fuses(all of them in the car and under the hood) when the harness wires got cut, they might have shorted out and blown a fuse. other than that, it could be as bad as needing a new harness or you’ll be hunting down little problems for years as this damage surfaces! this sounds very crappy, and serious. I don’t envy you the task of fixing it. Hopefully a local member can check it out and offer better advice.
they could of caused a short somewhere and either damaged a sensor or the ecu, or if ure lucky; blew a fuse for like the ecu, or starter relay or something. check ure fuses, the check ure harness very carefully, look for discolored loom and tape for signs of stress, there might be a brake in those areas first. Try that out and let us know.
PS, it helps to say where u r if u want someone to come help u work on ure car :E
Yikes. I put in a new CAI in my own car yesterday, and I’m glad I didn’t read this before I got to work, or I might’ve been a little nervous.
I agree with Silvia about the pressure though … if the harness is in the fan, there would’ve been a lot of pressure put in those wires, and they probably pulled out the other end, or at least broke some connections.
ok, well, i have been tryin to figure this out for the last little while and no luck. all the fuses are fine, the harness is fine now, every break has been re soldered. as far as i can see, everything is in proper shape, but i still get nothin when i turn the key over, so i don’t know what the hell is going on, i might have to bring it to a shop soon, as i don’t like my other car i’m drving right now. any last ideas would be awesome, thanks
for something this serious, I think I would just take it to a shop and hope the bill doesn’t get too high! but be prepared for it to get out of controll. finding electrical gremelins can be a very long process.
good luck
