So at 12.30 am last night I get a text message from imyibhayk@ilovekatzs.com and this is what it says.
“(Hey it’s Fredric) A fountain of energy whats going to move in the mkt tomorrow, UTEI, thats News You Can Use”
What the fuck is it? I have never got a text message from a .com
I’m kind of pissed if its advertisement though.
Should I go to Verizon and have them block it or something? I’m kind of confused on the matter. Plus its 5.15 am…but I’m not sure if I should be pissed/worried/ it was a mistake…
its a scam text… its designed to look like an inside stock tip… from somebody who has already bought a shit ton of hte penny stock a couple days prior. you are suppposed to buy a crap load and up the value a ton, and then they go and sell their shares, adn the value drops, u get screwed, they make $
if its verizon, call 800-922-0204, let them know it happened. they will be reversing charges (if you have any) for these texts. there is some sort of alert going on about them
I got one for the first time the other night. I’m not sure how they got my number or if its a brute force.
It’s a pump & dump spam attempt, like Viper explained. Most people aren’t dumb enough to base their investments on a random misspelled text message but there must be a few that fall for it, otherwise this type of spam wouldn’t exist.
my email address at work is public so I get those in the email form all day long, usually 50-75 a day. its ridiculous that they are allowed to do that because it costs some people .10 everytime they send/receive a text message
Did those of you who get spam texts sign up for the do not call registry (does this even apply for texts?), or did you put your cell number on a potentially shady website while making a purchase?
The only spam text I’ve ever gotten was from the Crocodile Bar, and I know how that started…
