This was a month ago, we took a fishing trip, my father and I to the Cape. Long story short while we are fishing we spotted a shark, and decided to get a closer look. Keep in mind we are one of 2 boats, 2 miles out in the Atlantic ocean, and we are in a 18’ deep vee freshwater type fishing boat.
This is when we first spotted it and were talking to the only other boat in sight.
We asked ther other boat what the heck it might be, then I asked him how close can we get to it. Dude goes “In a boat that size, I wouldnt get anywhere near it!” LOL.
So being retarded we chased it down. :rofl
Before you make fun of me being a pussy. Watch shark week, and more specifically the episode “jaws comes home”. It was shot out of Chattam MA, where we launched from, and the whale carcass they shot with the big white was EXACTLY where we were fishing and that video was shot! We estimate that shark we saw was 14’ long. Average weight for a 14’ white shark is 1,800 lbs. So when I say the hair stood up on my neck, and that was one of the craziest things I ever did in my life… I fucking mean it!
Ohh they guy told us he thought it was a sunfish shark? I posted up the pics and videos on a fishing site, and everyone on there thinks its either a White or a Basking shark. Google image Basking shark, those motherfuckers are bad ass too! either way, that fish could have eaten us for an appetizer! lol
no more video of that, but I have to upload the video of the 30’+ whales we were fishing around all day long, some coming close to the boat, close enough to cast and hit them! And video of a blue fish fight and a striper fight we caught on camera too. That you get a clear shot of the dorsal about half way out of the water, and the dark swirl 10 feet behind it is the tail fin!
clearest pic I could get from the video of the shark.
Man, if the camera could see what my eyes saw through the polarized sun glasses. it was every bit 8 feet wide, and about 6-7 feet tall, belly to back!
The Sun-Fish or Basking Shark is a plankton eater like the whale Shark. What you caught on video looked like a White Shark to me at first but looking at the image above the dorsal is more rounded than a White.
Yeah it’s hard to tell but the dorsal looks more rounded than a White Shark but Basking Sharks are usually alot bigger than that and feed below the surface. One thing is for sure you got alot closer than I would lol.
/\ Well when you dont know what you are doing, its easy to make that “mistake”. After I found out its most likly a great white… I called my dad, “Hey you know the shark we chased down… yeah apparently thats a great white, 1800lbs ave size”… Dad goes “Are you serious? Dont tell your mother!”. LOL
Def one of the best father son bonding memory I will hold for a life time!
i was there a week ago, was hammered fishing off a pier, fell sliced my leg up pretty good then proceeded to walk out to a sandbar and fish knee deep in the water. I was waiting to get attacked lol, whats the worst that could happen, some pussy shark tries to bite me?
Could also have been a porbeagle shark very common this time of year but rare to see in the area looking for foods. it seems a little docile for a great white they usually don’t stick around the top they usually lurk at the bottom and lunge to the top. next time bring failvis or murdogg and throw a bitch over. then we would know what it was for reals.
