Detonation occurs if a portion of the unburned air/fuel mixture gets raised to a temperature and pressure it cannot tolerate and ignites before the flame front gets to it. Detonation causes the maximum pressure in the combustion chamber to be reached before the piston reaches top dead center and pushes down the piston before it has reaches the top of its travel. Much of the gasoline’s energy is wasted in trying to move the piston up while the high-pressure gasses are trying to push it down. The extreme temperature and pressure developed can cause broken rings, rod-bearing damage, piston overheating, and erosion of the aluminum. Pistons sometimes end up with holes in their tops from the high temperatures and high pressures.

edit: you’re not hurting my feelings, i told you on the phone before I drove out there the radiator core support was fucked and nothing lined up correctly in the front end. I don’t know what you’re big deal is with the exhaust, its right where it needs to be so when a header is purchased it wont need anything but another sleeve welded on for installation… and I sure as fuck never used the queer ass word “MINTY” to describe anything.

Not trying to derail this thread even more, but there is NO difference between rez gas and off rez gas. I run rez gas in my car every single fucking day. Although, last week I filled up at Sunoco (wasn’t anywhere near the rez), and guess what, NOT A FUCKING DIFFERENCE.

So stop telling him he used shitty gas. To me, shitty gas is poo farts.

rez 87 works well in my car
therefore
all rez gas must work well in all cars

im sorry, but that just doesnt work. the fact is, rez equipment is often times outdated and there are less stringent regulations and execution/enforcement of regulations.

but please continue taking your limited singular experience and extrapolating it haphazardly.

Actually rez gas isnt the greatest. And bikes usually notice shit fuels long before cars will. NOt as much when fuel injected but you still notice a difference.

Nice bike BTW. I actually think the tail repairs look pretty bad ass.

if you’re going to gas stations in the middle of the rez that are owned by grandpa and grandma, then yeah i’d have to agree that the pumps will be outdated. but to say that about all the reservation gas stations is wrong. i work on the rez, therefore i know what goes on with the pumps and such. we get gas off of the rez, just like everyone else. and it’s not watered down as most people tend to believe. i’ll show you a tank reading sometime if you really doubt me. it shows all the specifics of what is in the tank, how much, the temp, etc.

now if you’re running 87 in a bike that needs 93, obviously there are going to be issues. rez gas or not.

but i truly believe there is no difference. i use 87 rez. oct and none of my cars have had problems. even my bmw. plus you think the thousands of people who get gas on the rez every single day would notice something too? … or not.

either way, yay for bikes.

rez gas sucks and if its all you can afford, you shouldn’t own a bike. PERIOD.

if you cant afford to put 93 in your bike, you shouldnt be riding it. PERIOD.

if I was miles and miles from home, somehow had no cash and ran out of gas, i’d rather call and tow it than get free 87 gas and destroy it.

it has never been stunted i bought the bike with plans of stunting from a friend who cannot even ride a wheelie… he laid it down lowside like 15-20 moh in a corner when a car came into his lane… he decided he wanted a new bike this year so i bought this one and “fixed” it if you will…
