i assume they are old red ring units. does anyone know if they are putting the new mainboards in them, or just “fixing” the old crappy ones?
If I had to guess…and I do…I would say they are just fixing the old ones.
I have a refurb after mine took a crap. It’s been fine for about 6 or 7 months.
doubt they are using the new main boards. unless its an HDMI model.
i should be getting one back any day…Ugh…
my roommate got one off of ebay.
it works now. we will see whos lasts longer. his refurb off ebay or my 1+ year old new 360.
got mine back. Or I should say a “replacement”. With a born on date of 7-9-06, I’m not expecting much. Delta fans, hitachi drive, rubber feet worn…Does have the upgraded heatsink though. Someone elses’s previous problem…

I don’t see why they wouldn’t just fix them. Most electronics stores can refurb a box too. The majority of the problems related to the thermal paste around the GPU and CPU. Most of the refurb boxes most likely had it the processors just resealed. That or the issue where the lasers in the DVD drives tend to go bad.
