what do you want to know, basically you are overriding the xbox bios with one that has the ability to do burned games, region free dvd player, run linux
is it overriding the system bios or the pcb on the hdd?
im looking more along of the lines of this paper
it overrides the system bios, once you do that though u can access all info on the harddrive via FTP

if you pull out a hdd from an xbox and plug it into your computer… --> no workie right? WHY?
it is locked, there is a encryption on the hard drive, until the xbox boots up this stays locked
right… i know that… how does / where does the encription / decryption happen? where is the authentication taking place?
once the xbox is loaded, whether is be sitting in the main menu or sitting in a game menu. The harddrive is keyed up with the motherboard for identification with a 44 digit code, do you need to unlock one? or are you just curious?

it gives a good base technical overview (written by the same guy as the .pdf you posted).
authetication takes place within the bios, through the use of an eeprom file. you CAN pull an eeprom from ur hdd tho if u have ftp access, and lock/unlock hdd’s using that eeprom.
