Yeah, I hate(d) vista basically for its performance issues, and I still don’t like the small amount of performance degradation… but seeing as how I deal with it at work constantly It’s a lot easier for me to move around vista than it is to move around in XP for me, with some of the shortcuts and features they put in. I perminately use vista now on my home machine, but I don’t use any of the aero effects… WINDOWS CLASSIC FTW!
Jeff seriously install windows XP on it, Ill give you a copy.
I figured people would be over this by now! Vista is stable, and fast… XP is not faster or more stable. XP is outdated. The card reader is likely a hardware issue, if it isn’t… try the SD card reader driver update from the manufacturers website.
Oh, and what is this about Vista taking up your computer? Do you realize that most of what you are seeing as taking up your computer is just prefetch? Yea, thats right, its a performance enhancement. If you don’t select what it prefetched for you, it instantly frees the memory it had allocated for other tasks.
Welcome to 2008, we don’t start our cars with a crank, we don’t have rotary phones and we don’t use mechanical typewriters. We evolve with new technology, but apparently there is always some resistance.
FUCK XP, it is a cartoonish piece of SHIT (with no support from Microsoft, but who used them for support anyhow?)
It is a joke. But it runs fast enough on my computer so I don’t care. Plus, IMO if you want to stay with/ahead the learning curve you’ll have to upgrade sooner or later.
I loved it too but I have certain programs and games that I couldn’t use. Maybe I’ll start using Ubuntu more though, I do miss it. Hell, I have it as a dual-boot with Vista right now I just have to install compiz fusion again
I would check the manufacturer’s website for any type of patch/driver updates. I personally love Vista, I haven’t found a piece of hardware that doesn’t work with it. I’m even thinking of going x64 on my PC at home.
I just made the switch as well, and so for its a pain in the neck. I could not install the full version of SQL Server Management Studio, some shit about WMI configurations. I had to settle for the express version. Also the ‘Credential Manager’ is asking me every time I enter a a password to save it for me so I can just use the finger swipe, well I can type most of these passwords faster than the stupid thing processes my finger.
On the plus side, I love the side bar, I love the new navigation, and it does perform better than XP (that is partially due to it having better hardware, but its not THAT much better).
It has been proven time and time again, theres benchmarks all over the place… Vista is slower than XP, a lot of it has to do with vendors and there lack of Drivers because they did not spend enough time on vista drivers when they had the chance before it came out.
Yes, vista is slower than xp, is it vista itself yes and no…
Never said vista wasnt stable.
Vista is a big bitch, and requires a good system to run smooth, but so did XP compared to windows 98
Vista is a good operating system…
And jeff move back to xp if your sick of vista, takes 30 mins of your time
Yes vista is a resource hog, but Windows XP was more demanding then Windows 98 was more demanding than windows 95 etc… Maybe not as bad as others but you get my point.
A lot of you people need to realize, as operating systems change so does hardware. Fuck I remember when people said 512mb of ram would be all you ever need, but with vista I would not recommend anyone that wants to run it smoothly to run less than 2 gigs. Not to mention a lot of people are resilient to change, vista is a lot different in its setup to Windows XP, some things are harder to find, but once you get used to Vista you find things are actually easier.
A lot of the “Performance” problems in Vista are 3rd party related and not directly Microsoft/Vista’s fault. If I wanted max performance out of my system, I’d use XP, but my system is more than sufficient to run vista and I’m fine with the minor performance degradation.
Now if I was into games competitively like I was a year or so ago, I’d be freaking out because I’m a frames per second whore, and yes the eye cant see over 60fps but anyone who plays FPS games a lot and none the less competitively you can the frames per second, if I’m not at least 80< FPS I got bitchy.
