Update: Car is finished. They got locked out of the SMT, and had to revert back to the DOS appliacation to changes values in the SMT-6. Overall, everything came to be 1200, but i traded him off some stuff and got it down to 1,000 even.
The MAF is setting off a CEL stating low voltage to it, but it is not hurting performance at all. The car is tuned and I ran it for an hour or so. It sure doe’s sound different from what N/A ise to be. That turbo sound is there, and with the HKS bov, sounds nice. I pulled up to a v6 tibby and smoked him easily, I had about 3 cars on him by then end of first.
So, all in all, I am VERY happy with my car, at 7psi, its doing what its been meant to.
I’m going to have to agree with John that the car did sound good. When we left, the car was hitting a solid 11.5-11.7 afr through the RPM range. Much different result than I thought I was going to see tonight.
However, I do recommend still that you buy a GM 1 bar or 2 bar MAP sensor to work in conjuction with the SMT6. Then you can easily roll back timing only when you need to instead of just retarding the timing in certain deflection vs RPM blocks. You’ll get a much more precise tune out of the SMT6 this way.
Part throttle load tuning is a bitch on turbo projects. Thats why I suggest a MAP sensor.
When a customer comes in to the shop and we start counseling them about ANY project we try to get as many facts and ask as many questions as possibly.
In this case Yamaha felt he needed ONLY the SMT-6 installed 2-3hr. and tuned 2-3hr.
When the car was towed in the shop after the exhaust had been done. It had a severe random misfire, running on 2-3 cylinders. This was related to bad connections in the injector plugs, i.e. 1 would work 2 would not, 2 would work 4 would not, 4 would work 1 would not, 3 always worked. Who knows why? All connectors replaced with NEW RC Plugs no more random injector miss.
Yamaha’s wideband not working (Not Logging) Having to setup mine and not charging him for the setup or use, Yamaha’s boost gauge being wrong, Tuning the car to start and idle with 440cc (TOOOO BIGGGG) injectors replacing 19lb.hr. (Stock) with a piggy back Fucking Sucks!!!
You can run 440’s on a 1.8L Acura GSR 10PSI JRSC running a hondata p28 and s200 because you aren’t trying to trick the ECU, your manipulating the actual values!
All these situations would add diagnostic time and labor not in the original estimate.
I could go on with the amount of time I spent in person and on the phone with Yamaha and his dad over the last 2.5 days reassuring them the project was making progress and I had good feelings about being done Friday night possibly Saturday even with all the extra stuff we had to deal with!
But I won’t because that’s part of my job and Yamaha’s now tickled pink driving around in a sleeper Elantra Setup and Tuned by Cannon & MP at SPEED NATION.
I truly hope your satisfied Yamaha with the work done here at Speed Nation. See you around 10-11AM today.
Personal note to Whitey: Thanks for the suggestion on using the DOS SMT interface when the Windows SMT version took a crap and locked us out.
This thread was never meant to bad mouth Speed Nation what so ever. With the amount of time and diagnosis work they put into the car. I am thnakful. Now, I’m not saying that Cannon should not of charged me for diagnosis time, but being on a limited budget, I was trying to get everything I could get out of it.
Special thanks go to Cannon and Paul at SpeedNation, with everything they accomplished on my car to get it running was tremendous. I cannot thank them enough.
Also, To Chris and John, I thank you guys from the bottom of my heart for coming down and taking time out of your day to help diagnos the problem with the SMT.
Both SpeedNation and 1st Try will be getting my business from now on.
A few days ago, I was at the end of my rope with this whole project, knowing what is needed going into an UNKNOWN project, I am happy with the customer service and results.
it was me, i didnt even think it was you till i passed you and noticed the front mount, it looks good!
and that civic :ugh: looked like he threw that turbo kit together in 10 mins…
I would have roll raced ya down 51 but too much traffic :burnout:
Sorry The1SloR/T, I knew it was you, I just goofed that part up. It was nice to finally meet someone from pittspeed besides whitey. I would of went to the meet in South Park, but I’m pretty sure I would of got my ass laughed at.
