That was MUCH more controlled than standing a few feet away from a drifting vehicle.
Most of these guys are NOT pros and are coming out to practice. There will be plenty of guys who blow their lines and drive directly through the one area that he’s X’d on the map. Standing there isn’t a possibility.
And our contract with the track was totally different last time. We carry more responsibility for this event and the added risk isn’t worth it.
lol You guys really are getting that bent out of shape? I personally dont care if I can be in that spot. Can I try to be, sure… why not. Is it stated that I cant or orginizers dont ant me there… yes, it is now. Thats all that needed to be said.
As for paulo… How am I being an idiot. Its called having passion for something. I enjoy getting the best shot that I can and risk is something I’m willing to take to get a great photo. Its what a lot of photographers would do. Lighten up. I didnt make a huge fuss about it. Actually if you knew me well enough, I am persistent but once told no by the ones running the event or owners of the track, I will drop it.
I’m a photographer too, and have done some risky things to get a decent shot. But those risky things are usually something that I have control over, not an amateur drifter in a car going 60mph.

Gotta start somewhere. Figured this would be the best chance I had. Do you see any local events coming here for drifting with pros to which I can get in a great spot to take the photos. I’m a big thrill seeker and an adrenaline junky. I’m sure I’ll get myself in a shitty situation sometime, but you live once and you gotta do somethings to get better at them.
Ok so I hope you guys with these post are posting them just to be “dicks” to people wanting to take pictures. Your points are the dumbest things I have ever heard. Look at the photos of the bike jumping the cars. The cars were not stationary, they were BURNING TIRES with their brakes on with people standing 10 feet away from it. Your worried about some cars drifting through some corners with the potentional of hitting one person, but not worried about a CROWD of people? These are some of the dumbest posts I have read on here in a long long long long time. Pictures in point:
or my Personal favorite, the car pointed in the general direction of a crowd, Keep those fingers crossed the brakes hold out!!!
I’m sorry man but there is a huge difference between a standing (stationary) burnout by a car and a car that’s drifting around a turn sideways at a high rate of speed.
You obviously we not there and I’m sure anyone who witnessed the jump will tell you your inference that Newman’s car was pointed at a crowd of people is incorrect.
wait so the people to the left of the car and the photographers sitting to the right of the car moved? I didnt see them move in the video? If that car was to let loose, no one would have had time to move to the left or the guys sitting still.
Look at the first picture you posted. That is a better angle. NO ONE was in front of the car. Also if the brakes let go on a burnout the car goes about 5-10 feet forward with the driver generally keeping control. A drift car that loses control in a corner and slides through the grass usually takes 50+ feet to gain any se,glance of control and are already moving at a high rate of speed. Your point pretty much fails.
Ignoring the fact that Newman’s brake system and car was designed for burnouts, if his car had “let loose” it would have gone straight into a wall. It would not have hit anyone who was standing on the left or right of his car.
No one would have needed to move to the left because they were already there.
all you guys are doing is assuming, your assuming IF the car brakes free, it will go straight, your assuming that IF a drifter loses it he will take out one random person, etc… The point still remains that your point of safety is dumb. It was not safe for crowds of people standing around a car doing a burnout while a kid jumps it, nor is it safe for someone to stand around “drifters” unprotected. Bottomline is, dont say “not safe not safe not safe” while at the same time your doing unsafe things at the same time.

Logic is, a car sitting still building up energy to rip up its tires, could take off pretty damn quick and hurt some body, just happy it didnt.
yes, i have been to tracks, and no I am not talking out my ass, please since your so smart and I am the dumb one, explain with your superior wisdom that having a car doing a burnout, building up energy(having the tires spin fast enough to be changing gears), with a crowd around him is safe? I am just a dumb person who has no idea what I am talking about.

ps, i truly dont care about any of this, i just find it hiliarious that you guys are saying one is “unsafe” but the other is “safe”. Truly the logic behind what is safe and not safe is off.
