In a burnout situation, let’s examine the ENERGY involved…
Since the majority of the car is stationary, the only thing with any inertia is my drivetrain.
Rotational Inertia: Er = .5Iw^2
Where: I = moment of inertia and w = rotational speed
The moment of inertia of a rotating body is described as: I=.5Mr^2
Where M=mass and r= radius
Since r is the dominant term in the equation, for the sake of simplicity we can assume the I of the driveshaft, gears, etc are negligable. Also, since I’m a super baller and bought a bitching overnight JDM flywheel that’s super light, we’ll neglect that too.
So we are going to focus strictly on the wheels in this example, because they are going to represent more than 90% of the overall energy distribution
Substituting we get: Er = .25Mr^2w^2
My pair of rear wheels/tires weighs in at about 50kg, The radius is .165m.
Since I was going about 100 mph = 47m/s
and w = v/r = 285 /s
So the energy for the burnout Er = 27kJ
Let’s look at the energy for a car going 50mph:
In this case we have both spinning tires, AND translational mass.
Et = Er + Ek
We already know the formula for the rotational energy of all 4 tires:
M=100kg, r=.163, w=143
Inertia for 4 wheels = 13.5kJ
HOWEVER, we now need to examine the translational kinetic energy of an 1100 kg car going 50mph
This is defined as
Ek = .5mV^2
where m=1100kg and v=24m/s
Ek=317kJ
So Et for a drift car out of control at 50mph is 330kJ

Sure to stop a exploding tire but also to have people be safe incase there was a slip up of the car or the driver loses it. Newman since your so smart with everything, how fast was your tires spinning, 30, 35mph or even fast when you were changing gears in the video? What would have happened if your front brakes gave out? You think you would have had time to stop the car from going out of control and having time to stop it from hitting the two crowds in front of you to your left and right? I dont think so. I think it is even funnier that you double up the super sick action of jumping cars with a second car but that car had clutch issues and just sat there. Thank god it did just do that because like claimed earlier from one of the smart posts, “newmans car was BUILT to do burnouts!!”, but sadly the s2000 was not. First, most of the people who are “sack riding me” probably don’t even like me, and certainly wouldn’t tell anyone they did (except maybe josh)
Second, the TRACK let people stand in front of my car. I told them to move off to the side. They did.
Third, i was wound out in third gear. That’s >100 mph. I let off the brakes before I let off the gas when I was done with the burnout. Did you see how far I moved? About 15 fucking feet. I might as well have been trying to launch my car into the crowd on a fucking hockey rink, my car wasn’t launching anywhere.
Fourth, If you are so worried about danger, then maybe you should ride your high horse on down to that track on Wednesday nights, because S&R Cruise Night is a billion times more dangerous than anything that happened at the last BBQ.
