I am on the fence about unions.

As an unemployed teacher, I dislike the teacher’s union and feel they are too big and powerful and that they are hurting local communities.

However, I feel that certain people need the support of unions, and they are unskilled workers. And this is where the issues of a nationalized healthcare come into play. I feel that people who work minimum and low wage paying jobs need to be able to have access to low costs health care, as well as support to keep them from being fired without just cause.

I know people are going to rebuttal with, “well they should get better paying jobs, or get an education or trade and better themselves.”

Unfortunately, there will always be people who can not do that, and there is always a need for unskilled, low paid workers. That is reality, and why shouldn’t they get the same health care as someone who makes a $100,000 a year? And why should they be treated like scum by shitty corporations?

I am on the fence as well. Personally, like all large organizations, I believe they will be corrupt. In theory, Unions are a great idea. Perhaps major reform can fix it? But, given how ignorant our leads are, I doubt it.

With that said, the real question is: Is Health Care a priv? Or a right? First, I don’t think ANY illegal should be given health care. Period. In a perfect world, we’d provide care for anyone but not when our own people suffer day in and out.

I really wish I had an educated answer to give other than point out that what we have, doesn’t work. I have said it before that I realize welfare must exist. I realize tax must exist. However, it is disturbing to see some people life better than I when I KNOW I work harder. I am not talking about the common guy but the welfare person dropping kid after kid.

I really don’t know. It’s too fucked up of a system for me to get my head around it.
