You make it hard to defend you GM...

So I’m in neutral sitting at the red light at transit and main on my way to get a gasket for the pool light. Light goes green, I start to shift to first and the shifter goes limp. Big old shift knob flops over held in place only by the leather boot. I’m still in neutral, rummaging around the shift boot trying to find some stub that will allow me to get the car in gear, any gear. Manage to get the car into second and limp it home after finding 3rd.

The result of a 10 minute disassembly:

That grayish rectangle blob would be the snapped off metal, it’s now divorced better half still bolted to the transmission in the car, providing me one of the shortest throw most awkward shifters on earth until I get it replaced.

:banghead:

Before the “lay off the roids” comments, looking at ls1gto.com I guess this is pretty common. At least it will be a simple fix once I get the part. Hopefully the part doesn’t have to come from down under.

lol nice?

PS… if anyone has a way to look up the GM parts number for this that would be helpful.

05 GTO 6 speed. Looking for the “shifter shaft” or “shifter arm” or “shifter” I guess.

You must work out…

wanna borrow a pair of vice grips for a few days?

lolz. This sucks, but its kinda funny at the same time.

time to try out something aftermarket. That does suck.

Aw man, I can just picture trying to go at the green light and failing. Were there cars behind you? Haha.

Were you listening to disturbed at the time of the breakage? That is not covered…

PS It’ll buff out… err on?

cold welds

I guess now is a good time to install that shift knob you bought.

haha nice. Would make a good pic for one of those motivational posters.

why not weld the shaft back together or fab up your own shaft that is more comfortable for you? or better yet a short throw if that has a long reach.
