Lou’s Short Stick + Hurst shift knob FTW.
if the knob gets crazy hot, cut the end of a sock off and stick it on… i had to cover most of the aluminum shift knobs i owned when i lived in texas or they’ll burn the hell out of your hand.

+1 I have a pair of leather gloves I keep in the vette to take off the targa with when the thing is 500 degrees. I’ll often put one glove over the knob so it doesn’t scold me.

That hurst shift knob is great. Way better feel than the stock one and the shorter throws, solid steel feel and driver angled lean of the LSS make me wish this would have snapped years ago. Huge improvement for < $100 total investment. I’m hoping it doesn’t get too hot since I haven’t had a problem with any of the other black stuff in the car getting that bad. If it does I’ll keep the sock trick in mind. :tup:

no fucking way in hell is the transmission gonna cause that much heat in the shift knob
if that was possible, people would be melting leather and plastic shift knobs
210 degrees fahrenheit won’t melt plastic and if no one else was talking about that, then I am. I put a metal knob on my S12 and it got almost too hot to touch when the car warmed up.

texas sun, black car, aluminum shift knob all adds up to a big blister in the palm of my hand. plus the sock comes in handy for the what to do when i’m bored and consult nyspeed…
