For turbo stuff just go custom after you get bored with the fish tank manual boost controller. RB20s are a cool swap as they came first in the Z31.

Not sure the exact history but all the Z31s were the single cam VG30E and VG30ET except the ZR200 which was one of the first RB20DET powered car. Came out in '87 ~'88 (just before the R32).

The first series RB20E/DE/DET engine was fitted to the R31 Skyline and is generaly referred to as a “red top” RB engine as it has red cam covers, it used the “NICS” (nissan induction control system) injection system. The non-turbo models were also fitted to various Holdens in Australia and New Zealand, and some early Z31(300zx).

On the home market, the list of models included the 3-litre 300ZX and the 2-litre Z, ZG, ZR, and ZR II spec. The 300ZX in Japan was not subject to tough emissions regulations as in the US therefore producing 230 horsepower . The 2-litre models used either a VG20ET or RB20ET engine and developed between 170-180 horsepower
