And a good read about what red light cameras are really about… PROFIT.

One more reason for me not to go into Buffalo.

eep. I run lights like crazy through Buffalo. I fucking hate Main st. It gets so frustrating to hit every light within a 2 mile drive making it take 20 minutes.

yeah, we def need more accidents. Read that article in C&D a few months back.

 Not a bad thing IMO since I don’t run red lights and its a big thing in buffalo

Let’s tax one of the poorest metro areas in the country EVEN MORE!

Good idea.

Too bad Buffalo is planning to have a corporation run it, which means they will almost certainly shorten the yellow to jack up revenue.

And see if you’re still giving it a  when the person in front of you jams on their brakes the instant the yellow comes up.

Or when you’re stuck at one of the many lights that doesn’t have a turn arrow for making a right, and you can either go just as it turns red and get a ticket or sit there for 3 or more cycles of the light hoping to catch a break in traffic.

They have them here. I’m sure they cause more accidents than actually encouraging people to obey the laws. They are 100% a revenue generator, at the expense of everyones insurance premiums.

:word:

They had these in DC people would always try to beat the light or or come to some ABS assisted stop…

This isn’t about safety. This is about generating revenue for the city and whomever’s buddy will get the contract for these cameras.

^ Washington Post article regarding the ineffectiveness of red light cameras in DC

they talked about it on S&R the past few days, and people called in saying they had gotten tickets in places they had never even been before. Another person said they got numerous tickets for turning left when they had a green arrow. the cams dont take that into account. Or even right on red ill bet.

amazing how our local govt will be divided to all hell on anything that the people here want…but something like this, all of a sudden they all agree.

:picard:

complete bs so what am i supposed to do when the light dosent change for 20 mins cause my bike does not trip the sensor ( cover my plate with my hand)

General Dynamics holds the contract for them in VA/DC and they make a shitttttload of money off them.

Well that isn’t true at all…

Marshawn Cams?

Following is a link to the common council members, email them, send them studies showing an increase in accidents, do anything…

?

Good luck. They don’t care about accidents, they care about revenue. They’re selling it to the public using the scare tactic of accidents but they know full well this is about money. They almost admit it when they start talking about the money it will raise and how they’re going to use that money for more police.

And you’ll never get people organized enough to fight this because most sheeple will look at it as, “I don’t run red lights, this will be a good thing”. Then a year after it’s in place and they’ve rear-ended some idiot who jammed on his brakes or been caught when the company running the camera dropped the yellow from 3 seconds to 1.5 then they’ll be pissed. By then it will be too late though because the city will have budgeted all the money they’re pulling in and once something is budgeted in NY it’s pretty much impossible to get rid of.

These tickets are easy to beat. You cant be accused by a camera alone. Someone has to show up in court if you want to fight it and they can’t put a camera on the stand.

There is NO points related to them, just a fine and a way for the city to make money.

Ridiculous… but soo true

ya, but that still requires you to take time off work to handle the issue.

PITA
