Not really a volkswagon fan at all but stumbled across a good deal on this jetta. Gas in the jeep is getting expensive so I’m looking for something to cut the costs in half. lol Its an 04 5 speed with the 1.8t. Any thoughts, opinions, suggestions. I’ve heard about unreliability with them but like I said, never been a fan so don’t know much.
Since its only a few years old I cant imagine there could be a ton of miles on it yet, thus probably not much to worry about. Should be a great car for a while anyway.
Future things would be timing belt, abs module, water pump, etc. Sorta standard fare for any car.
VWs are easy to work on and the parts arent very expensive, contrary to what people may think. But thats just my two cents.

Eh… If you are trying to get an economical vehicle there are better options. You’ll probably see ~25 mpg doing mixed driving with this car. Plus it takes premium. Plus it’s a MKIV VW so there will be little problems all the time.

But Id rather work on a german car than drive a jap car any day of the week.

I’ve got almost 150K miles on my Passat, and have only had a few things go on it. Mainly because it has so many miles on it. Still drives fine.

oh Im not a hater I have a few miles on mine around 260,000… wouldnt drive anything else VW’s are drivers cars… drive them becouse you like to… NOT for efficiency… get a honda or toyota for that.
