In my ongoing quest to find a semi cool and fun beater/ daily driver… I started looking at VW just for the hell of it. Its amazing what these cars come with for the price. vr6 or Turbo 4cyl, keyless, 4 wheel disc, cd players, moonroofs, monsoon stereo. For a lot less than it would cost me to get into a similar equipped honda/ nissan/ mazda. Ugh… im actually considering a 2001 Jetta GLS, with a 5 speed VR6.
im looking into newer vw’s for my sister for a daily she needs a new car and they def do come pretty loaded for the price just need to see if they are as reliable as the say theyare …
my mom has an 01 jetta vr6. she bought it w/ every option. i think she paid 22k for it new in late 01. fucker is loaded-- black, tan leather, memory all this and that. I think the car has like 15k miles on it… She hates to drive it b/c it is her baby. Damn rear brakes are rusted on it b/c she dont drive it enough… Plus she has allways been emission exempt since she owned it for not driving it enough.
get the ‘sport’ interior… mainly the black seats and dash… looks sweet…
i have a 4cy turbo, monroof, cd/tape/amp, regular bullshit, heated seats, heated mirrors, heated washer nozzles, 17’s for 19500 i believe… got it at the end of the year and talked the dude down the best i could… it’s well worth it.
i haven’t had one issue with mine except the one recall on coilpacks (never a problem, just had then swapped)…
I owned two VW’s before my current ride and I loved them both. The last one was a '95 Jetta VR6 5-speed. I drove that thing hard for 6.5 years/98k miles and it never let me down. The VR6 is a great engine.
My wife has an '03 Jetta 1.8T with a 5 speed, it’s a great car. I’m now driving her old '97 Jetta GT as a DD. It’s been solid too during its 92,000 miles, other than screwy power locks, and a serious wheel bearing eating problem. It’s on the 4th bearing on the front drivers side, and I’ve replaced the passengers once too… I don’t get it. A guy I work with has the exact same car (well, a GL), with 115,000 miles, and he’s still on the stockers. I don’t drive like a nut in it either shrug… Well, I do blaze corners alot, lol.
I’m going to keep it until it self destructs…
I think you need to stop smoking crack before going to a dealership.
j/k
I am still looking at a passat wagon for my next car later this year. it’s either the vw or the nissan altima with the 3.5.
I like a lot of what I see from VW. I think the current Jettas look nice w/ the 17"s and the interiors are awesome. The only thing that scares me is their known wiring trouble. I have a good friend that runs an automotive electrical shop and he sees way too many VWs. I don’t know if that’s something you all have experienced or if it’s just chance. But he seriously gets a ton of about 5 year old VWs with very very serious wiring/electrical problems more like what you’d expect from a 30 year old car.
